Let’s be honest, she’s not that fucking bright.
Whilst I would reform the resignation process given the chance, the current system (send a letter to the Chancellor) isn’t exactly hard is it?

I'm surprised the chancellor didn't have a small handful of appointment letters to the crown posts for the very awkward squad with just the date missing in case. So these could be dated & published at the first opportunity that the MP said they wanted to stand down, as any opposition MP / byelection defeat would be better than having to put up with these MPs.

Resignation should be a matter of saying 'I Resign' and going home and not attending the HOC, rather this this damn fool nonsense. They all have offices of profit under the crown once they started to get paid for being MPs. The PM and all the ministers have always had offices of profit under the crown as the King's ministers. This is all absolute bollocks and we all know it. I am the Tory here and the man who likes tradition and ritual but not gormless pointless witless behaviour to no purpose at all which is what this is. And are they truly appointed and do they get an actual payment and do some actual work? No they don't. This is piffle of the 17th grade.

Aren’t you lot just being a tiny bit impatient? She only announced it as her intention a few days ago. It’s not got a time limit on it. No. She said she was giving up at once. Take her at her craven word and get rid of the trollop. Hold the election and hope for better next time.

She was the first of the trio to announce her intent to quit, yet we have heard nothing about her taking the action required. I wonder whether her silence explains the failure to issue the writs which were widely expected yesterday.

If Dorries has changed her mind will the Lib Dem’s ask Labour to give them a free run at Selby or at Uxbridge?

Yes but there’s been no need to change it because it all just has the same effect. Those who want to resign just get appointed to these offices. The method doesn’t really matter.

Resignation should be a matter of saying 'I Resign' ... I agree, the process should be improved, but just saying “I’m off” isn’t enough. If I’m fed up of my job and want to quit I need to tell my boss either orally or in writing and I’ve done both before. An alternative for me is to not turn up and get fired. As I’m sure you know that’s not an option for MPs.

Newsnight reporting that Nadine Dorries will not be actually vacating her seat until the eve of the summer recess, partly so she can complain about the blocking of her peerage, partly to cause trouble for Sunak by prolonging the byelection campaigning in Mid Beds.

So, she continues to take her salary - even her "anti-establishment" fans will find that hard to take, given she announced she was resigning "with immediate effect".
