The one difference between Mid Beds and N Shrops is that there is a shedload of new housing in this seat (massive electorate to boot) so the demographics aren't helping the Cons here at the moment. Closer to metropolitania as well (3 train lines to London) so easier to get to for campaigners and a bit more 'connected' and less 'left behind' Beautiful seat - maybe I can be tempted to visit.

Has she actually been granted the Stewardship of the Manor of Northstead? I can't see it on the Treasury news page. If she hasn't... Don’t underestimate her inability to fail to do what she says as in “resigning immediately” she’s still on the payroll, resignation will probably kick in Monday.

And the Committee Rooms are unlikely to be at the back of a hotel a couple of miles outside a small town. Which isn't an ideal location.

Anyone else would view it as the end of their career if they ran and were defeated. But Boris would just carry on. It’s weirdly inevitable he leads the Tory party again. To be honest, I suspect he will stay out until the GE. Somehow I struggle to accept even he has the cajones to go for this.

Lol at the people dismissing my theory out of hand. Boris has resigned precisely after receiving the Prelidges report.

Run what? A bath? Shurely you’re not suggesting that the incumbent MP for Uxbridge & South Ruislip is going to be a candidate in the Mid Bedfordshire by-election?

Labour polled 28.5% here in 2017 - so a vote share of circa 35% should be possible.

I can't remember if Ive already said this but didn't labour have some decent council election results in this part of the world in May? They won zero seats in this constituency

Presumably, Bodger could be removed from the list of approved tory candidates?

Officially, both Labour and the LibDems are fighting both of yesterday's byelections seriously.
In between the lines, it is already obvious that the LibDems are going to concentrate on this one, whilst Labour get Uxbridge mostly to themselves.
