Nogueras (Junts) has just been on. She's not saying no to Sanchez, but she was admiring his knee-caps and lamenting that something could happen to them in the future unless he's very careful. How charming. Is she noted for remarks like this? Did she say it in a Belfast accent?

How charming. Is she noted for remarks like this? That was entirely my inference. Her actual words were much more diplomatic. Something like: "We're going to need a lot from Sanchez before we consider supporting him, and he mustn't forget it".

TVE has PSOE+Sumar+ERC+PNV+ Bildu+BNG+Existe just short of a majority. Teruel Existe are an oft forgotten bunch: super regional and originally set up to campaign for Teruel to get a motorway and a better rail link (the railway was single track and kept detailing). They weren't even a fully fledged party until recently but rather an 'electoral grouping.' The only time they've really been prominent recently is when they supported Sanchez to be president, and the leader got death threats and police protection. Teruel Existe is shown as getting 0 seats in El Pais result page. Indeed, they have lost their seat to the PP

Vox going backwards was never in doubt. The problem was that the PP was expected to do a lot better, and take Vox into government. Still looks likely they'll squeak over the line. Depends what you mean by squeak over the line. I've said in a couple of posts on here that the right bloc looked to be struggling to reach majority territory. PP 136 Vox 33 Where do the other 7 votes for a majority come from? UPN 1 and maybe Canarian coalition's 1, but they burnt their bridges a while back with the more centre-right Catalan and Basque parties. 171 seats max. PSOE 122 Sumar 31 BNG 1 154 seats. ERC 7, Junts 7, Bildu 6, PNV 5 more likely to abstain, with the result that Feijóo would become PM but more likely than not another election later this year or early next year.

They've lost the two senate seats too. Edit: the raw vote didn't go up, that's what you get for looking at multiple sources while trying to listen to a Spanish interpreter who is speaking quietly over a Basque guy.

The PP party shown on TVE has someone waving a Catalan flag, that's a surprise. And the interpreter speaking over Arnaldo Otegi was hard to understand.

The PP will have a majority in the Senate. A really crazy disproportional system there it seems

Is the Senate relevant to government formation?

A very salty Abascal (Vox) just finished speaking. The most "interesting" thing he said was that the polling companies conspired against the right to make their voters complacent.

Is the Senate relevant to government formation? No. The upper chamber is pretty toothless in Spain too. They have essentially no power to change or block day-to-day legislation. The only time they really have any power is when constitutional changes are proposed.

Awkward moment at the PP victory party where the crowd started chanting for Ayuso part way through Feijóo's speech.

Good stuff. I like what I'm hearing. We need one here. We might have to drop the Franco bit to avoid confusing the plebs. Clearly the Spanish people don't agree with your assessment of their needs as Vox are getting a real drumming n this election. I have next to zero interest in Spain or the Spaniards and have never made any assessment of 'their needs' in respect of anything at all in my life. My choice of party is entirely personal, as have been all the choices in my entire life. What do I like and what suits me and where do my particular best interests lie. There is no other sensible reason to make any choice relating to anything.

Tellingly, she had her own entrance before Feijoo appeared to speak.
My prediction is that Feijoo will neither be PM nor will survive as leader of the PP by the end of the year, when there will be a second election.

Sanchez has played a bad hand extremely well and was probably the only person in the PSOE who could have done so, but that wouldn't have been enough on its own: this is a Ted Heath in 1974 level of fiasco from Feijoo, absolutely incredible.
