After watching the two part program on BBC2 this week about Erdogan expect the streets to run red with blood if he loses. I wasn’t aware of that, so I’ve just watched it. It’s more scary than I thought. It reaffirms my solid belief that (1) the failure of the military coup in 2016 was one of the worst things to happen in the world in 2016, and my (slightly less solid belief) that (2) within 10 years (i.e. by 2027) Turkey will have a Syrian-style civil war.

A shame that @goodoldcause no longer posts here too - not least because their take on the current state of the Tories would likely be worth reading.

These two pictures tell a lot about this election and politics in Turkey at the moment.
Polls close at 5pm local time (3pm UK time) and there is ban on reporting results until 9pm local (7pm UK time).

Fingers crossed that Erdogan is out. A bit uneasy about how he and his followers would react though.

If anyone thinks ErdoÄŸan will give up the reins of power I have a bridge to sell them.

For sure. They would not react well at all.
However, there is one big difference between this and today's other national election. Even with significantly more government influence than before, support of the military for him would be very far from absolute.

The reporting ban on results has been lifted. Turnout looks to be incredibly high.

BBC appear to be doing their usual thing of reporting numbers with no context and little analysis

Probably good news for the opposition, but we’ll see. Or ballot stuffing... If so, let’s hope they over did it enough for turnout to breach 100% somewhere…

No official results until 9pm local time, but results will be available at the following links. Turnout is supposedly very high 93.6% (+7.4% on 2018) from what is going around Twitter. At the last Australian Federal Election - where voting is compulsory - turnout was "only" 89%. Given voting is seemingly enforced in Australia and not in Turkey, the turnout figures are, ahem, interesting...
