Frank Baynham , Labour councillor for Coleford East ward on Forest of Dean DC has sadly died . This will be an interesting one . If my daughter is correct, the Conservatives have selected a (very) popular young man indeed. I know of friends who traditionally vote labour who intend to switch their vote solelybecause he is the candidate. I shall be watching intently. |

My reaction is that people tend to overestimate how well known a candidate is. I would guess that Coleford East has several (2-5) thousand electors. The recognition rate is limited at that scale and the number swung limited. Not zero but measured at best in 10s. That could swing it if the election is close but otherwise is swamped.

The election of TWO councillors to Crewe Town Council aka Crewe Parish Council will take place on 1st August. This will likely be contested.
Two councillors on Arlesey Parish Council and one each on Hockliffe and Studham parish councils in Central Bedfordshire will be elected on August 8th. It is unclear whether any will be contested.

Frank was a gret man, and the Labour Party will be out in force there. UKIP will be second, Labour will win. |

Conservatives won all 3 seats in Coleford East in 2007 although I agree Labour are favourites to hold .

Tories really bombed in Coleford in May. Very inaccurate. After Cinderford, Coleford is the most Labour leaning part of the Forest. TBH the Tories probably shouldn't have won here in the first place. |

Not only inaccurate but incorrect . The result in May 2013 was almost a repeat of the 2011 SC results with BOTH Labour and the Conservatives losing around 200 votes each to UKIP . |

Labour majority in Cinderford in May 417 votes over UKIP, just over 200 votes ahead of UKIP in Coleford who beat the Tories into third place by a handful. UKIP did very well in Forest overall so it could be interesting..... |

Thats disappointing in Newcastle - not even close. I know we've been on the wane there in District elections in recent years but we did win the CC seat covering this ward in May
