It appears that we need a thread for by-elections to be fought post the first Thursday in May. As of Friday noon (or soon thereafter) we should know which vacancies remain.

This means that the poor Cliftonville East voters are going to the polls seven days apart, and puts a lot of stress on the ERO and staff of Thanet council. Because the outgoing councillor was disqualified, the vacancy is notified to the council immediately and the RO has little to no discretion about the choice of date for the poll. |

Does the RO not have the 25-35 day allowance which normally allows 2 Thursdays. Therefore with the 9th assuming the 2nd was impossible could it not have been the 16th?

Barking & Dagenham LB, Longbridge - Labour died
Leicester UA, Abbey - Labour resigned
Oldham MB, Alexandra - Labour died
Thanet DC, Cliftonville East - Conservative sitting as Independent disqualified following prison sentence
Current known vacancies where by-election not yet called - 4
Edinburgh UA, Liberton & Gilmerton - SNP died 3rd April
Lichfield DC, Fazeley - Conservative sitting as Independent resigned around March 22nd
Salford MB, Weaste & Seedley - Labour died around 15th March
Weymouth & Portland BC, Melcombe Regis - Conservative died 1st April

The Rawmarsh by-election, Rotherham MBC, caused by the resignation of Shaun Wright following his election as South Yorkshire PCC, will be on 16 May.

Duncan Kerr, Green Party Councillor has resigned his seat in the Whitwell ward on Bolsover District Council in Derbyshire. Apparently polling day is on 23 May 2013.
