London Borough of Croydon Selsdon Vale & Forestdale ward Caused by the death of Badsha Quadir (Conservative)
Tom Bowell (Labour) George Holland (Lib Dem) Andrew Pelling (-) Peter Underwood (Green) Fatima Zaman (Conservative)
2022 May: Con 1,964 / 1,502 ; Lab 480 / 446 ; Green 469 / 425 Con 57.8% Lab 15.4% Green 14.9% Electorate 7,328 turnout 2,997 (40.9%)
2018: Con 1,982 / 1,950 ; Lab 649 / 646 ; Green 228 / 186 ; LD 178 ; UKIP 176 Con 62.8% Lab 20.7% Green 6.6% LD 5.7% UKIP 5.6% Electorate 7,415 turnout 3,130 (42.2%)
NB my method of calculating the percentages is to do the average of the votes for each party, divided by the total turnout. So the percentages don’t add up to 100% (and they’re not supposed to (unless every voter chooses only one party and then votes for all the candidates of that party))
Tom Bowell is a young autistic chap who stood in Addiscombe West East ward in May Fatima Zaman stood in Addiscombe West in May Peter Underwood has loads of experience of elections Andrew Pelling is a former Conservative MP, former GLA member, former Labour councillor. He has no description this time (I notice that one of the people who nominated him is his ex-wife, with whom he is on friendly terms (I didn’t know she lived in the ward)).

Now while I would like to see Selsdon Vale & Forestdale elect anyone other than a Tory, I feel with the Croydon Council mismanagement under Labour and the relatively stable administration of Mayor Perry, the Tories will hold on with a slightly reduced majority of around 20-30%

That undernomination in Lichfield last time looks interesting (as does the Labcon vote splitting itself). Looking forward to the preview.

Also: City of London; Bridge and Bridge Without (Independent resignation on becoming the ward's Alderman) Candidates: Melissa Rachel Collett (Independent) Scott Marcus Longman (Independent) Saif Ahamed Masood (Independent) Gordon Lawrence Nardell (Labour Party) Hugh Maximilian Hilliard Selka (Independent) 2022 (Alderman): Ind 142, Ind 40 2022 (councillors): Ind x2 Unopposed2018 (Alderman): Ind Unopposed2017 (councillors): Ind 131, Ind 96, Ind 21 2015 (councillors, by): Ind 75, Ind 20, Ind 17, Ind 1 2013 (councillors): Ind 64, Ind 63, Ind 48, Ind 46 [The losing independents were linked to the Young Britons' Foundation] 2012 (Alderman): Ind Unopposed2009 (councillors): Ind x2 UnopposedTo untangle the Independent victors... Brian Harris and John Owen-Ward were elected in 2009 and saw off the YBF challenge in 2013. Owen-Ward stood down in 2015 and was succeeded by Keith Bottomley who remains on the council to this day. Harris retired at the 2017 elections and was succeeded by Timothy Levene. Both incumbents were re-elected in 2022 but Levene then won the open Aldermanic seat upon the retirement (due to age) of Sir Alan Yarrow. Melissa Collett stood in the Aldersgate Aldermanic election in May. Saif Ahamed Masood stood in Coleman Street in the council elections in March. Gordon Nardell stood in Farringdon Within in the same council elections and for the Cities of London & Westminster seat in the 2019 general election (both for Labour). Scott Longman and Hugh Selka appear to be first time candidates. Diamond Geezer visited the ward in 2020. Note that "Bridge Without" is now without the City - it's the part of Southwark that used to be in it and the ward name stubbornly survives in one of those odd City things that the City of London School completely failed to teach me. Current Council ( according to the website): "Not specified" 118 (including 24 Aldermen and 1 Alderman-Elect), Labour 5, Vacancy 1, Missing from the website 1 (The councillors elected for the Temple & Farringdon Together and Castle Baynard Independents parties don't seem to use those labels on their listings which is very helpful.)

What's the difference between a duck? Take some time out to polish your Capt Obvious badges. I haven't got any Captain Obvious (whoever he is) badges. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for somebody to explain what the difference is between the green square which says that Labour is 8-1, and the blue square which says that Labour is 36-1. (Similarly, that Andrew Pelling is 12-1 and 10,000-1 respectively).
