Yes, plus a small element of Sunak being preferable to Johnson in some Con voters minds in those places and a small element of it not being a Brexit election. It depends where the 'new' Labour votes come from. It's surely possible that quite a few will have voted Tory in the previous election and may actually therefore help the Lib Dems get over the line. Yep that’s possible. I was thinking that Sunak/ Hunt might be more popular to Tory remainers in those sorts of places than Johnson in 2019. I think if Labour win the election by 15%, then the Lib Dems probably would win those places though.

The relevant statistic is that the Lib Dem vote dropped by 1% nationally between 1992 and 1997, but their seat total still went up by 150%.

My mum (in Ormskirk town centre) has had one leaflet from Labour and nothing from anyone else. Not much going on it seems, understandable when it will be a very easy Labour hold.

Time was when a by-election in this constituency would have been interesting, but it seems those times have passed.

Reports from my friend who lives there is that it's deathly quiet. Almost zero campaigning on all sides amd we should brace ourselves for a very low turnout!

Front bench activity alert!!! Apparently Lisa Nandy from neighbouring Wigan, will be in Skem on Saturday, presumably doing doorknocking, leafleting and other good "photo ops" Should be OK just so long as she dosent get caught doing a Lee Anderson though! Maybe the campaign has woken from its slumber?

I wonder if the news channels will more or less ignore this in terms of "on the spot" coverage - given it's been a very low profile campaign all round.

Confirmed that this will count on Thursday night what, all three ballots? Three? What are the other two? Parliamentary by-election, and what else?

Three? What are the other two? Parliamentary by-election, and what else? I believe it is a comical remark about the low level of electoral turnout in parts of Skelmersdale, m'lord.

I assumed that Crimson King was referring to some sort of local referendum or by-election which we didn’t know about. I didn’t realise that he was stupid enough to think that they are called “ballots”. It is of course entirely realistic that there will be a turnout of only 3 votes in the by-election.
