this is a surprise. There was a by-election there in the Queen's Coronation year, but in those days Ormskirk was a fairly safe Conservative seat (although won on rather different boundaries by Harold Wilson in 1945).

Some of us will remember Rosie Cooper herself from the 1986 Knowsley North byelection when she was the Alliance candidate

Must admit, seeing this new thread title without any previous knowledge I did fear the worst. Good to see that isn't the case at least.

In an obvious preemptive move, Andy Burnham is letting it be known he has no interest in the imminent vacancy here.

I was born and raised in Westhead. Rosie has been a popular local MP. I'll be following it very keenly.

One suspects (assumes? presumes?) David Braid will not stand here.

One suspects (assumes? presumes?) David Braid will not stand here. Is he still alive? He must be fairly old, and that level of faux religious fervour ages a man.

Rosie Cooper is 72. It's odd that she is taking a new job now rather than just retiring at the next general election.

Skelmersdale usually votes about 80% Labour but the turnout there will be woeful I'd imagine.
I remember reading the Almanac many years ago and the Aughton Park area was ranked as one of the most Tory areas in the whole country back then - think it's certainly less so now.

I Googled Aughton Park and the first link was a care home. Lol.
