There appears to be 22 by-elections including a “double” election for 23 seats during September.
- 2 by-elections on 1 September
- 5 on 8 September
- 3 on 15 September

12 by-elections are for District Councils, 4 of which were last contested in May, 1 in 2021 and the remaining 9 in 2019
3, including the “double” election are for a unitary authority, 1 last contested in May, the “double” election in 2021 and 1 in 2019
2 are for Metropolitan councils, both of which were last contested in May
2 are for Welsh councils, both last contested in May
2 are for County Councils, both of which were last contested in 2021

Conservatives defend 11 seats, 3 following the death of the previous councillor and 8 a resignation
Labour defend 4 seats, 1 following the death of the previous councillor and 3 a resignation
Liberal Democrats defend 3 seats, all following resignations

With all SOPNs now published, there are 22 Conservative candidates, 20 Labour, 14 Liberal Democrats, 13 Greens, 3 TUSC, 2 Plaid Cymru and 1 apiece for the SNP, Scottish Greens, Gwlad, Reform UK and Bolton for Change, Freedom Alliance, Monster Raving Loony Party, Chase Community Independents, Mansfield Independents, Coventry Citizens and City Independents together with 10 Independents contesting 9 seats
