Does anyone else hate Melenchon and dislike his platform intensely, but would deeply enjoy him becoming prime minister?

16 with only 2 safe seems quite low for RN. I know it’s not a direct comparison but they came out on top in a lot more than that in the second round of the presidential. In fact there are more than 2 seats where they won more than 40% of the vote this time, and I’d have thought they’d be more than certain in Var’s 4 given the likelihood of hoovering up Zemmour’s vote their.
I know they don’t necessarily win loads of transfers, but is there a methodological reason for you predicting them to fail in so many of the seats they led the first round in?

I haven’t been following the micro-Details of French politics in the last few years as much as I would have done perhaps 15 or 20 years ago, so I went to Wikipedia to check exactly what “NUPES” is. I was amused to discover that it includes: Generation.s which aims to “refound and gather the left” and supports eco-socialism; Ensemble! which Ensemble!, which is anti-capitalist, anti-racist, feminist and eco-socialist; La France Insoumise, which is democratic socialist, populist and eco-socialist; as well as the Socialist Party and the Communist Party. If all these eclectic and eccentric lefties had stuck with continuing to vote for, and be involved in, the Socialist Party like they were 30 or 40 years ago, they might have achieved more of their objectives in the first place, instead of splitting all over the place and being slow to co-operate again. It might have helped if France had adopted FPTP from 1958 instead of having its silly two-round system. The silly two-round system is only possible because they don’t even use proper ballot papers like proper countries do. if the left is known for doing anything it's splitting and hating each other more than they hate the opposition. Sadly not only true of France. Currently watching the Unison conference unfold in dispair. They clearly took one look at unity and thought not for us What's got the delegates of Unison (my union) to engage in some mutual loathing this time?

They clearly took one look at unity and thought not for us Générations was funded by Hamon (the 2017 PS candidate) after it became clear the PS was opposed to all the left working together and still was on the fence about Macron. It is pretty much a satellite of the Greens, now. Ensemble was a NPA (New Anticapitalist Party) outshoot that left the NPA to join the FG (Left Front; the alliance of the PCF and the previous Mélenchon Party, PG (Left Party)).

I'm quite puzzled at the potential transfers from Zemmour candidates to Le Pen candidates. You might very well be right but - on the ground Zemmour and his candidates are having a "little virgin boy pulling a tantrum for not getting his toy to work" moment and are calling to not vote RN - the transfers were very very bad in the presidential as their two electorates are completely different (rn and nupes electorates sharing more similarities than rn and reconquête). I might be wrong, of course, but these facts make me wonder and doubt Finally, one thing: it's very hard for RN to won when they are not at least 15 points ahead on the first round, even with such vote "reserves"

However my thinking on Var’ 4 is that a lot more RN-inclined voters might have gone for Zemmour in the first round because he’s a big name and they thought his high profile made him more likely to make the second round than the RN candidate. Also not sure how many voters will listen to him saying don’t transfer to RN when he said the exact opposite for the presidential election.

It's all in foreign language to me but they all seem very passionate about something. Not sure what but it's very important

I think the difference between the two is that Le monde classified some over-seas candidates as nupes while the interior ministry didn't ah that makes sense. I was reading the vote totals in Le Monde and Interior Ministry and getting very confused. How can less people vote and the turnout be higher! Thanks for clearing that up After reading up on the fascinating hexagonal brawl about the result and the nuance¹, a comparison of the left, centre, right and extreme right totals to quantify the change to 2017 as an alternative to sorting out and adding up 579 constituencies, with a couple of its own debatable lands. ECO lost EELV in 2022. DXG and RDG are with the left despite of my penchant for the argument that a non-negligible share of the 'extreme left' may fit better with other collective memes than 'left'. And that the combo of 'radical' and 'left' has oxymoronic quality. I remember the expression Global Britain.
Just for fun, a look at "Global France".
Polls will open in: - Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon: today 10am GMT - Guyane: 11am GMT - Martinique, Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin, Saint-Barthélémy: 12am GMT - Polynésie française, Wallis et Futuna: 8pm GMT - Nouvelle-Calédonie: 9pm GMT - La Réunion: sunday 4am GMT - Mayotte: 5am GMT - Metropolitan France: 6am GMT
And, of course, I'm not including foreign countries.
We should expect the first second round result in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon between 9 and 10pm GMT today. Then Guyane, foreign countries french 1st and 2nd, then Guadeloupe, Martinique and the Saint-Barthélémy-Saint-Martin constituency.
Polynésie française and Wallis-et-Futuna will come on sunday morning, Nouvelle-Calédonie as well, then between 6 and 7pm for La Réunion, later Mayotte and then Metropolitan France.
