I believe we've now passed the deadline for any new vacancies to be held on 5th May alongside scheduled elections, so it's time to crank up a new thread for the upcoming municipal year. Any new vacancies can be reported here. To kick things off I've tried to combine the middleenglander and Davıd Boothroyd lists with outstanding vacancies that may not be held on May 5th (I'm sure many of these will be.) This contains all outstanding vacancies either one has listed, where there's either no election planned in May, or it is due to a death close to the deadline. I'll remove from the list as we get confirmation which ones will be held. Also noting the vacancies in Harrogate and Cumbria which are in some doubt due to the incoming unitaries there. May 2022-23 be a year of solid defences and spectacular gains for us all. Allerdale: St Michael's. Cause: Resignation of Mary Bainbridge (Lab) in March 2022.Barrow-in-Furness: Dalton South. Cause: Resignation of Shaun Blezard (Lab) on 3 February 2022. (doubts due to Cumbria reorganisation) Carlisle: Botcherby and Harraby North. Cause: Resignation of Jack Paton (Ind) on 2 February 2022. Carlisle: Longtown and the Border. Cause: Death of Val Tarbitt (C) on 28 January 2022.Cumbria: Longtown. Cause: Death of Val Tarbitt (C) on 28 January 2022. (doubt over filling this due to Cumbria reorganisation) Epping Forest: Waltham Abbey North East. Cause: Resignation of Ann Mitchell (C) on 22 March 2022. Exeter: Pennsylvania. Cause: Death of Ian Quance (Lab) on 22 March 2022. Harrogate: Marston Moor. Cause: Death of Norman Waller (C) on 25 January 2022. (doubt over filling this due to N Yorks reorganisation) Harrogate: Wathvale. Cause: Resignation of Bernard Bateman (C) on 25 March 2022. (doubt over filling this due to N Yorks reorganisation) Knowsley: Page Moss. Cause: Resignation of Andy Moorhead (Lab) on 20 October 2021.Lancaster: Ellel. Cause: Death of Howard Barrett (Ind) on 31 October 2021.North Hertfordshire: Letchworth East. Cause: Resignation of Sue Ngwala (Lab) on 1 October 2021.Ryedale: Sherburn. Page Moss, Letchworth East and Welwyn East can be chalked off - those councillors were due for re-election in May.

The two Somerset CC vacancies can also be chalked off - the elections in Somerset in May are for a new Somerset CC in the first instance.

Calderdale MBC, Ovenden: Bryan Smith (Lab) has stood down for health reasons. I think it was early enough to be a double vacancy, but the council elections page doesn't mention it.
(Update: it is indeed a double vacancy)

I understand that Waltham Abbey North East is called for 5 May, although the Epping Forest website is currently having technical difficulties.

Resignation of Jennifer Hemingway (Labour) Lancaster: Ellel. Cause: Resignation of David Whitworth (C) on 22 March 2022. Lewes: Peacehaven West. Cause: Resignation of Joe Miller (C) on 14 March 2022. City of London: Cordwainer Alderman. Cause: Death of Sir Roger Gifford (non-party) on 25 May 2021. Spelthorne: Laleham & Shepperton Green, death of Mary Madams (Con) Warwick: Leamington Clarendon. Cause: Death of Jonathan Nicholls (Lab) on 14 March 2022. Waverley: Frensham, Dockenfield and Tilford. Cause: Death of Brian Adams (C) on 14 February 2022. Wyre: Cleveleys Park. Exeter: Pennsylvania is being held on 05 May Ryedale: Sherburn falls into the limbo category being in North Yorkshire Cumbria: Longtown is no longer a vacancy as it is superceded by the 05 May elections The status of the 5 vacancies in Cumbria and North Yorkshire is intriguing - can David Boothroyd shed some light? - The only vacancy with a Notice of Vacancy is Harrogate: Wathvale, the most recent. - Why did Allerdale: St Michaels and Carlisle: Longtown & The Borders go ahead when vacancies occurring around the same time did not? - Will there be a by-election in Harrogate: Wathvale in a few weeks time? - Will the other 4 vacancies remain unfilled until the Councils cease in April next year?

Cumbria CC, Longtown is not superseded by the 5 May elections - the 2022 elections to Cumbria CC have been cancelled and the current county council will continue until abolition in April next year. This is a different situation to North Yorkshire and Somerset: in those counties the 2022 county council elections are going ahead, and the newly-elected county councils will become unitary councils when the district councils are abolished next year.

Cumbria is being split into 2 Unitary Authorities whereas North Yorkshire and Somerset are being retained but as a new Unitary. Are you saying Cumbria will for some 10 months then have: * 84 current County Councillors * 46 Councillors for the new Cumberland Unitary Authority * 65 Councillors for the new Westmorland & Furness Authority * 247 existing Councillors for 6 current District Councils A total of 442 Councillors give or take a few vacancies. Some of these will be sitting on 2 or even 3 Councils. Good luck with that!!

There are also 266 parish councils.
