The Conservative candidate is Bobby Alden: That will be his fifth consecutive candidacy for this constituency over a 12 year period. Quite unusual for a candidate to stand five times in a row if unelected.

Quite unusual for a candidate to stand five times in a row if unelected. I would suggest that this indicates that he expects to be leading the local Tories into the city council elections in May, and will try to raise his profile via a campaign here.
I am informed that the Lib Dem candidate will be Lee Dargue, who has previously stood in Ladywood in 2017 and 2019.

He's up for election in May so campaigning for the parliamentary seat will do him no harm.

I think I noted somewhere near the beginning of this thread that this constituency had the same Conservative (Alden), Labour (Dromey) and Lib Dem (Ann Holtom) candidates in each of the last four elections. I am guessing this is unique amongst all constituencies but don't know for sure.

There was also a John Alden who stood for the Conservatives in October 1974 and 1979 (coming within 680 votes of defeating Robin Corbett) - father and son?

John Alden was also Conservative councillor for Harborne ( 1983-2012 & 2014-18) And the wife and mum is Deirdre Alden, current Conservative councillor for Edgbaston ward ( 1999- present) and parliamentary candidate for Edgbaston in 2005 and 2010.

The Aldens are one of the local political families. Others have included the Chamberlains (in the past), and various Blumenthals and Lines's have graced the council chamber at various times. But this is far from being a solely Birmingham phenomenon.

Jack Brookes is standing for RefUK. This appears to be his first contest. He's from the Bruges Group.

The other independent Michael LUTWYCHE seems to be part of the Justice For The 21 Group which works on behalf of the families of the victims of the Birmingham Pub Bombings.

Could someone please register "Elections Should Be Run Properly" as a party and stand somewhere with a poor electoral services just to force them to read this out in the declaration?
