Massa has rung Milei to concede. Good riddance to Peronist fascism. Dancing at Milei HQ

Massa called for peace and de-escalation during his speech apparently, if I understood correctly

Argentinian law doesn't allow the publication of any results until three hours after polls close. For Massa to concede before any results have been published suggests there has been a landslide. Let's hope the fascists are buried.

Was that just for this election or in general? In general. There's a different peso rate for each!

Now that Peronism has been weakened, I wonder if that will be permanent? After Milei it's possible another alternative comes along and there may be room for something more functional.
Or it's entirely possible they'll go back to all being Peronists (but occasionally disagreeing over whether they mean Juan or Eva)

Argentinians have replaced one disastrous government with another. I look forward to them doing so in 2027 once again.

Or it's entirely possible they'll go back to all being Peronists (but occasionally disagreeing over whether they mean Juan or Eva) They have a bright future: Someone, who is bravely enough to not want to cooperate with the KP-China&Lula and will be boycotted by "liberal" Biden&EU, will be an economical disaster. And then people will resign to the devil they had had.

Too many people make a good living out of the Peronist machine, and you've got the punteros (local bosses) who get to dole out favours. That structure won't vanish for a while, sadly. And it's almost amazing that Milei won, as he doesn't have that, and probably needed PRO and friends to help out with their own punteros. Massa has unleashed some deranged economic measures, and is an opportunist. But he's not a vindictive arsehole like CFK or a muppet like Alberto. He'll probably be back. Even if he says he will not be. Because he's the Petty Advantage. And because his wife was appointed to run the state water board...

Perhaps, but given a choice between repeating the same mistakes over and over again they have opted to do something radically different. It is the right decision, even if it doesn't work out.

Massa won Buenos Aires province by 1.5%, compared to a 2.3% victory for Scioli in 2015.

Massa only won Buenos Aires province by 1.5%… That's in line with round I: Remarkable - though not surprising - is, that the city voted close to national average.

Massa only won Buenos Aires province by 1.5%… Had Massa not won it narrowly, he would have won in some way no province - because Formosa & SantiagoDelEstero are pure peronist machines.

One has to wonder what the results in Santiago del Estero would have been if ‘democracy’ there didn’t resemble one in mid 19th century inner city America… (aka, voters essentially being forced to vote one way by the machine, sometimes violently…)

I had no horse in this race...
Argentinian governance is so poor that I can understand the choice made. However the winner doesn't control the legislature or the machinery of state administration. With the parlous state of finances there will be pretty heavy reliance, whatever the remedy, on external support. And it's a country where the armed forces historically are more than bystanders (with Milei making not unsupportive remarks about a previous foray of theirs into government). It was good to note Lula's pretty reasonable remarks (bearing in mind he'd been a Milei target).
Milei has already toned down the hyperbole a bit. But expectations may be dangerously high.

The comments of the far-left Gustavo Petro were typically boorish and disgraceful I thought. Regardless, it'll be interesting to see what happens here, and if Millei keeps his promise to anchor Argentina in the broadly Western Atlanto-Pacific community.
