Well fancy that. Argentina has suddenly devalued the peso and ratcheted up the interest rate.

Makes a pleasant change from defaulting on the debt again.

No he doesn’t It’s just you All other suggestions gratefully received. He looks like a middle-aged Frodo Baggins. I'm not sure that organ sales would be too well received in Bag End, though.

As expected, only 1 person will be able to stop Mr.Milei: Mr.Milei. And, also as anticipated, he does indeed his best to prevail over him: Recently aides came out, that the inHabitants of the I.Malvinas should have the final say, naturally creating a protestStorm; or bringing into play a HongKong-solution.

Millei is proposing deeply unorthodox, almost lunatic economic policies.
Which isn't much different to what is currently being offered anyway.

Then there is the point, that he wants to leave MercoSur or at least leave Brazil (because of left Lula) and China (because of the CP-regime) aside for purely liberal reasons. What is very virtuous, but suicidal - especially, because Biden & WestEurope will out of left"liberal" dogmatism not reward him. He will end between all chairs, when he would need virtually all of them for economical surVival.

The governorElections happening before the General Election on October 22nd, when those of BuenosAires (city&province) plus 2 more will be up, are over and have produced this: Unsurprisingly the Peronists held only few (mainly in the poor North).

First Round, Poll is this Sunday. Milei is still leading.
BBC article states "Voters seem genuinely intrigued by Milei's promise to dollarise the economy. They are ready to drop the peso like a bad habit, whether or not Milei could effectively adopt the US currency."

Milei seems to be "trumpifying" Argentinian politics. God help us if this toxic contagion continues to spread around the globe!

Milei is described as "far-right" by the BBC. For those more clued into Argentinian politics, is he genuinely "far-right" or is he "far-right" in the modern, highly devalued sense of the term? His main idea seems to be spending cuts, which I don't associate with the "far-right".

Well he's certainly not centre-right either - I suppose "hard right" might sort of fit the bill?

Milei seems to be "trumpifying" Argentinian politics. God help us if this toxic contagion continues to spread around the globe! He's not really much like Trump at all. It's lazy journalism. If you wanted a Trump figure, CFK would be a far better analogue.

Some news this week that doesn't bode well for Argentina's future is blatant interference by Alberto Fernández.
A criminal complaint has been issued against Milei after he made the not-unfair point that the peso was useless and that Argentines were doing nothing wrong in hoarding foreign currency. This complaint has been loudly backed by Fernández.
Of course, no action has been taken against any of the people with direct responsibility for destroying the value of the peso, or leaving it with different exchange rates if you're exporting wine or soy.
