Funnily enough - no one in my family has still worked at 60. My dad took seven years off work after he hit 45. My mother hasn't really worked for about 10 years. Both sets of grandparents retired at 57. I've never had a full-time job either. None of you are a huge asset to society, are you?

Contributions to arts, media, culture and academia must also be taken into account. In Sanders case, comedy.

In Sanders case, comedy. For a while a couple of years ago, I'd say I'm semi-retired. Self-employment can basically be the same thing.

You could be a glamour model.
That is another job where if you say you are one, then you are one

This is rather surprising given how long life expectancies are nowadays. Retiring as early as age 57 seems almost unimaginable at present.

Though I also can't imagine affording not to. My job is pretty easy and largely remote - I could do it past 65 I should think. It doesn't require much intelligence or discipline or motivation or whatever.

I interviewed a retired couple living in a large house near where I live. He is 53 & she is 52. I like being effectively semi-retired. We had a nice Oxford drinks last night. I was the first one there. only work about 15 hours a week. It's bliss. It's been like that since 2022. I'm also a firm believer in the FIRE movement (financial, independence, retire, early). I'm working on that one.

that would be a good quote to wheel out when you next stand for some kind of election. Imagine the goldmine of opposition research this forum would provide if anybody thought sanders credible enough to be worth it.

I can see the Lib Dems making a serious effort in Skipton & Ripon. Whether they would actually win it is another matter. Hertsmere would I'm sure be fine for the Tories although it does have some relative Labour hotspots.
