"Apparently"? You mean a rumour you heard from a booliak in a sausage-shop? Or from a reliable source?
I would doubt if it's true, because Hancock has been a gallumphing booliak for ages anyway without seeing any need to resign before.

If true, this will not be Eastleigh MKII for the LibDems.
I remember canvassing hard in the original by-election. Still have Channel 4's "A Week In Politics" on vid, with the report following the result. David Owen gushing how Hancock typified his "tough but tender" soundbite.
Hancock was the SDP's first grass roots victor.
