Why not just put up with the Tories for 6 months, he had ages to make his mind up.
To be open-minded, I can see why he’s not calling a by-election, standing down and the parliament soon to be dissolved.

if I were a cynic, which of course I am not, I would think waiting to make it public until a few days before locl election polling day was timing which Labour strategists would be very happy with

Why are we even having this discussion in this thread? Barring unforeseen death or serious illness, it's incredibly clear that there will not be a by-election in the Central Suffolk & N Ipswich constituency this parliament.
