It's probably too late in the life of this parliament, but the The Times has its facts right, it looks like Fylde has possibilities. Extraordinary story. Implications of blackmail threats over gay sex, ,misuse of party funds to pay off the supposed blackmailers, abuse of office, allegations repeatedly referred to whips, but nothing done. Seperately, reports off intoxicated poor behaviou in public. Sounds like a really nasty man. Or a man with significant mental health issues. Or both.

Please please please, anybody that this happens to - PHONE YOUR WHIP! Trying to manage it yourself and hope you can sweep it under the carpet will never work. Go straight to the whips, they have the knowledge of how to deal with these things. Got caught with the Soviet Ambassador - straight to the whips. Got caught speeding - straight to the whips. Accidently took a hit out on somebody's dog - straight to the whips. If you're worried about your political career, it will be worse if you try and fiddle it yourself. Go to the whips. And if you've been abducted and blackmailed you might consider contacting the constabulary ...

What specifically is it that you object to about his tenure? The major thing he's arguing for these days on defence is a substantial uplift in funding, which I would have assumed as a traditionalist conservative you would be in favour of? Carlton will correct if I’m wrong but I imagine it’s because of the major support for Ukraine which he disagrees with Yes. And it is wider and deeper than that. I want a greater spend but directed to our national needs and not those of the USA, EU, NATO. So more men, more inshore small boats, a large border force, larger Special Services, much expanded SIS directed to internal home affairs, missile systems, drones and consequently much less on nuclear deterrent, planes, armour, artillery and carriers. Our major threats are local, internal and inshore. I want less capacity and ability to get entangled in foreign involvements and no expenditure at all on Middle East, Afghanistan or Ukraine.

What I don’t quite understand is that if a party member received a phone call from her friend the MP in the middle of the night in those terms, why didn’t she immediately phone the police and say that she feared that he might have been kidnapped or was being coerced or blackmailed? I suspect that the 78 year old lady in question knew exactly the kind of character said MP was and thought that the last thing he would want (or the local party would want) was the police finding out about it and then investigating all the associated shenanigans!

According to the Times Menzies is "about to stand down as an MP".

Despite than the fact it appears he is not very good with money and might need the salary, I think the pressure on him to resign from parliament will grow.

His position is untenable, simply unfit to serve. Lots of people don’t necessarily like their MPs personally or professionally but they at least have the right to be represented by someone who conducts themselves within the boundaries of what most people would consider ‘appropriate’. This joker along with William Wragg, shouldn’t be given the right to collect their wages and stand down at some (as yet) unspecified time. How can any constituent approach them with an issue that they would want assistance with?

Unlikely, but Central Suffolk and North Ipswich? Don't see any reason Poulter would stand down before the election.

He won't: Laura K has done an interview with him on the BBC site, in which he says he thinks it's beeter for his constituents to stay on.
