Maybe not, but we will take our wins where we can get them.

I don't see that he did anything wrong. He said that women should educate themselves on what you can and can't be arrested for. This is surely the duty of every citizen anyway.

Normally I'd be thrilled at the prospect of casting a ballot in a by-election, not least because of this site. However, the prospect of this vast county going to the polls during the winter for a post that shouldn't exist just depresses me.
That said, the absurdly low turnout and huge cost required for the by-election might just reignite the debate about the whole PCC nonsense. It is not as if the next door commissioner in Cleveland is coping much better...

11-0 on a body dominated by elected Conservatives and Conservative placemen Having said that, he never had his officers beat up women protesting because one of his officers had murdered a woman so I am not convinced the case for his dismissal is stronger than that for Cressida Dick Dick is a cop, Allott is a politician. One is a job in which you can literally get away with murder (though less so in the UK than in most other countries I know, including my own). The other is a job where your public words may be weighed meticulously.

Yes, I do accept that I am comparing apples with pears But I think it is valid to compare the actions of the Conservative Cllrs with the actions of the Home Secretary and I shall now take to Twitter and troll her Certainly. You have my blessing.

If Sarah Everard had resisted arrest, any officer who arrived would have assisted the arrest. She would have lived and she would have been prosecuted. And BTW, most of you Doktorbian arseholes on here would have applauded the prosecution. Bad hair day?

I don't see that he did anything wrong. He said that women should educate themselves on what you can and can't be arrested for. This is surely the duty of every citizen anyway. If Sarah Everard had resisted arrest, any officer who arrived would have assisted the arrest. She would have lived and she would have been prosecuted. If I had assisted her to resist arrest, I would have been arrested with full force and prosecuted. There is not and can never be an expectation on the public to resist arrest. If you support that proposition, you need to be ready to attend a few funerals, some of them of cops That neilm is the dumbest post you will make this month The issue is knowing what they can arrest you for: he was quite right that people need to be more aware of this. I have no problem with the funerals of police officers. I've said throughout this that I would resist a single officer and that I'd act in self defence if I deemed it necessary, in the manner I deemed proportionate. We have policing by consent in this country. That means knowing what the police can and can't do, lest they stray. It is incumbent on everybody to have a basic grasp of what are arrestable offences, and if necessary fight back. On the other hand, I'm a six foot tall bloke who has a gym membership. A lone copper is unlikely to approach me, unless he wants help. Then I'd make a judgement about whether that was necessary. Almost always, it wouldn't be. I am singularly unimpressed with the police in the UK. I don't go as far as to say that they're scum who need to be ground down like dirt on my shoe, but every single infraction needs calling out. Every illegally parked car, every car going a bit too fast, every time they harass a young black guy, every refusal to intervene to prevent a crime, every failure to report wrongdoing in their own nick. Eery single damn thing they do needs scrutinising and watching, and once they show that they can behave no one will need to know what they can and can't be arrested for, and won't need to exact a proportionate response on the police officer acting out of bounds.

35 working days from the vacancy.
Has be actually resigned or pledged to? Journalists yesterday were saying he'd quit, yet the commissioner's twitter account says he is "to resign"
