Interesting that there's no Labour candidate in Huntingdon East. The ward is primarily composed of Hartford, which is an area with vanishingly little Labour potential, but given that the Cons gained Huntingdon North & Hartford due to a split vote* it does eliminate the chances of that occurring again. *I haven't seen box counts, but I strongly suspect Labour had a very strong lead in the Huntingdon North part of the division, and it's not impossible that the LDs were narrowly ahead in the Hartford part. Odd that there is no LD candidate in Oakham given their recent success there. I can’t imagine that Lab will win that straight fight. Proved wrong!

RUTLAND Oakham North West TOSELAND, Leah (Labour) 293 BOTTOMLEY, Daniel Stephen (Conservative) 175 That's a good result for us, although the census statistics do suggest somewhere with Labour potential

Is this a case of being punished for parachuting a candidate from elsewhere?

Longlevens Result Turnout 2,527 34.7% Green - 86 Con - 781 Lab - 135 Lib Dem - 1,520 Pretty much in line with the canvas returns on my brief foray into the ward. Which is always nice to see. I'm told that everyone who voted in May got at least a knock on the door. Our councillor elected in May has had a huge impact in a short time. Tory switchers were deeply unimpressed with the Tory pitch on the doorstep. I did say this appeared nailed on upthread.

Is this a case of being punished for parachuting a candidate from elsewhere? I'd hardly call her a parachute candidate - she's been a councillor in West Lancashire in the past (albeit in Skem), and her candidacy for parliament was in Southport. If she'd come from Manchester, or heaven forbid London, then I think it'd be fair to say it was because she was a parachute. But she's pretty local - unless the definition of local round there is literally restricted to a handful of villages.

I certainly know of areas where coming from a nearby major town is a worse sin than coming from London or the major provincial city
