I think there is a deep misunderstanding among a lot of Lib Dem activists that if the other two parties move to more extreme positions then it leaves a huge opportunity for the Lib Dems in the middle ground. What they fail to recognise is that a left-wing Labour Party is a recruiting tool for the Tories and vice versa (it's slightly more nuanced in reality, but broadly the case). I was an Agent in the 2019 GE and I'd rate the national party's campaign as E- on a scale of A to D. I think many Lib Dems genuinely don't get what (and where) the middle ground actually is.
And that's a fairly fundamental problem.
A lot of activists seem to think we can win by appealling to ourselves instead of appealing to the voters. Y'know, the actual people who determine the result.

It worked for er, um well nobody really.

The Conservative candidate appeared to refuse to rule out having a second job if he got elected and has now released a statement saying he won't:

No doubt he’ll say that he was in Bromley instead…

Yes. My legs are cursing me. Well if you walked all the way there from east London, I'm not surprised.

Another easy Tory win: LDs are not even targeting this seat seriously. Labour are nowhere near landslide position. Reform will retain their deposit, maybe get a good 10-15% of the vote, but they’re relatively unknown. Need more time to establish themselves. They will do better in the post-Covid climate, where lockdowns cease to be an issue. Whatever it’s intrinsic merits, an anti-lockdown platform is highly unpopular even amongst Tory voters.

You accidentally missed out the decimal point

Where do you see this 10-15% coming from? And if a libertarian platform is unpopular, will Reform end up a much more traditionally right-wing force?

How have the Labour/Brexit campaigns been so far? Lots of canvassing teams out for Labour and a lot of high-profile MP visits.

Like C&A, I've been here most days since the campaign began. Unlike C&A though I've been hesitant about saying much on here about what I've found because there's actually something at stake here for my party (beyond my own ego). However, it certainly seems like something has spooked the Tories. The amount of manpower and paper they are deploying is like nothing I've seen from them before (including when I was a member and cchq staff), but the fact they refused to allow the BBC journo to follow them doorknocking tells you quite a lot about what response they must be getting...

Do you expect that the reintroduction of Covid restrictions will help or hurt you?

Funny to read about this new app. Whereve they been for last 3 years. Tbf suppose it shows money and intent that they got it. Also damn 90% is pretty good. I've never been in campaign with higher than 70% coverage. I might have without seeing the data but whenever ive had a peak its never been higher than that. In 2015 92% of Hallam residents reported being contacted but that was a 2 year campaign. Is this bullshit?
