What, I like being optimistic in my predictions. It's not as if it actually matters, it's just a bit of fun. Clearly the abscene of both Labour and the Lib Dems gives us an edge in East Hampshire. However, whilst I would love to be wrong about this, I think our chances of winning a seat in what is far from our best district in a county where to my knowledge we have never won a councillor at principle authority level would seem remote to say the least.

It did cross my mind when making my predictions, as to whether the Lib Dem’s come from no where to win in Sunderland. But in the end, I like most others, went for them finishing 4th, and like most others gave them a single figure percentage vote. I factored in that they do have both an Independent with some history of getting votes in the ward and the Conservatives to get past which makes it less likely. But who knows.

I factored in that they do have both an Independent with some history of getting votes in the ward and the Conservatives to get past which makes it less likely. But who knows. I went through similar thought processes and came to a similar conclusion, though I compromised a bit and went for 10% rather than 5%. I did look at some of the other Sunderland wards where they have already won from what looked similarly hopeless starting points, and since the deadline passed I have more info on the candidate than I had when making my prediction, so if I were making it now I think I would up it further, but too late now, I fear. Tomorrow morning I may be grateful I couldn't act on these latest wild rumours. As you say, who knows.

Congratulations to Robert for the month (was it ever in doubt?) and to Iain for the win in this very interesting and problematic final week.

And the perils of tardiness, I’d have been 3rd for the month if I hadn’t been late on the first week.
Not that I’d have caught the two masters.
