It'll be interesting to see how this affects the Swiss economy.

Hmmm yes, especially with all of those city bankers heading to Geneva if the EU goes through with a bonus cap.

Excellent news Devonian. Thanks for posting. If only we could do the same here and force the politicians hand over the pernicious and disasterous free movement rules. It could also trigger the mechanics for a break up of their association and if we had so voted, our association, with the EU. This might be a better course for a referendum here and much easier to win....the exit would then follow as part of the fall-out?

So less than 1% on a turnout of less than 60%.
Hmm.

So less than 1% on a turnout of less than 60%. Hmm. 58.8% is actually quite a good turnout for a Swiss National Referendum. Turnouts are frequently below 50% and 58.8% is the highest turnout for a national Referendum in Switzerland since 1992.

So less than 1% on a turnout of less than 60%. Hmm. Thats a very good turnout - getting towards GE levels here... I would have voted no yes - but only so we would get chucked out of the EU, but im afraid that the result should be respected here.

The Cantonal breakdown is most interesting in demonstrating that wealth, commerce, banking, agriculture, rural and Italian supported this and industrial and French were against. This must have split communities and families in many places. I did not see Stans in the BBC list and wonder how it voted? It is a Canton without income taxes because it provides very few services and increasingly attracts the wealthy who don't want any...a virtuous circle of anti socialism.

I've just checked to see that Stans is the Capital of Nidwalden. Nidwalden voted 58.8% Yes 41.2% No, Turnout 60.3%
