Once, a very long time ago (1991 to be precise) it was a Lib Dem seat in rather odd circumstances. Said I'll help, but not over confident that it will happen again

Odd that the Greens have dropped out when they seemed to be building support.

Odd that the Greens have dropped out when they seemed to be building support. Sandwell was the Met council where we had the biggest drop off in the number of candidates between 2019 and 2021. Whilst our numbers were generally up overall, in Sandwell we dropped from 18 candidates in 2019 to just 5 this year...

If they offer you Tower Road as a leafletting round, just say no, but there's some great views up the top from Oakham Road.

No Tory candidate - it was a straight fight. 1991 was a particulary bad year for Labour in Sandwell (actually pretty bad in the West Midlands generally) so I guess you just benefitted from being not Labour

The newly elected Councillor had been a member of both the Tories and Labour previously.

Probably because in 2019 it was all organised by one person who left or gave up..

But to answer your question, it's definitely plausible. It's pretty representative of the West Bromwich West constituency so they will have carried it at the last general election, and they came close in the recent local elections. It may well come down to local factors and the general national mood.

I'm not aware that we've done anything beyond some social media stuff, so it doesn't suggest a big effort from us

Very late this week. I’ve been checking regularly since last night. I think it’s dependent on when Britain Elect choose to publish; I think I’ve noticed a pattern with them of the fewer the by-elections the later the publication of the Preview(s).

Are Cllrs responsible for doctors' appointments? One of Stoke’s Conservative councillors (current Lord Mayor) is a semi retired GP, so, technically yes…
