Yes, but it might be influential given that it comes from the retiring long term ward member who claims to be giving a dispassionate independent view of each candidate's strength and weaknesses. I'm not sure that quite stands up. She was of course not a member of the present administration and it may not be entirely coincidental that she gives the Conservative candidate a much easier ride than to Lib Dem or Labour. She makes rather dark hints against the suitability of Todd, while giving Alasdair a bit of a thumbs up on the basis of his past experience on Thanet council. The latter might not stand up to too close an examination - I notice he never polled particularly well in his two terms on Birchington South, and the reputation of Thanet council was suspect to say the least. Well, Todd is a very busy chap. I did not spot the tweet that says he is starting an MSc at Warwick uni in Sept, but that is a legitimate complaint. However I agree she seems to be giving him the Guido treatment. If you look in the comments (you have to click on the link saying comments) there is a full rebuttal from Lib Dem Todd Olive. But how many people would spot that?

It is interesting that there is a Communist standing in Aldeburgh & Leiston because the now defunct CPGB, which the CPB split from in 1988, used to have considerable support in Leiston from in particular the workers at the Richard Garrett & Sons engine works which closed in 1981.

I suspect The Greens will run the Conservatives close in Aldeburgh & Leiston. I gather from social media that the regional branch have put a lot of effort into the ward during the campaign. I guess we will see if it's just a good social media campaign or a good ground campaign later tonight.

Do we know which counts are definitely not happening tonight? Or are we back in the swing of all counts happening on the night?

Really? It is an absolutely tiny ward, based on housing estates which mostly do not yet exist - so a strong local campaign based on highly local issues could swing it. But even then, it's still a very surprising result.

Andrew’s preview mentioned a strong Labour showing in the county council division covering this ward in May. I don’t wouldn’t hazard a guess, but oddly, according to Joe Ives’ Twitter commentary they were more hopeful in Feniton.
