Vote for your PCC to, err, sort the roads out and protect the greenbelt. All worthy causes but I'd be impressed with any PCC who could sort out highways maintenance and planning policy as well as do the day job. Clearly any cop who finds himself with little to do in his policing job will be made to help out the understaffed highway maintenance crew!

Perhaps anyone who wants to build in the green belt will be arrested?

Perhaps anyone who wants to build in the green belt will be arrested? The Sandford police force had the right idea.

As others have said, this should be a safe Conservative hold with a very split opposition (though sadly we aren't standing, despite several of the comments made here earlier denigrating us for considering doing so).
In May Lib Dems, Labour and the Independent candidate almost tied for second place, and though the county is very conservative, there are enough non Tory voters out there to make a significant dent in this if one becomes an obvious front runner. I doubt whether either of the two parties can manage this, due to the different demographics and political history across the county, but I do wonder whether the Independent might manage it, especially as he is probably a more attractive alternative for current Conservative voters to opt for. As he ran before in May, he presumably has a little profile to draw on to make this clear to voters, so could be interesting, or at least more interesting than might otherwise be expected.

Can see the turnout being really low, which leads to more uncertainty in the result
Campaigning levels are very low, to have found a leaflet is a miracle. So far I've received nothing.

The percentage votes in May for the first round were (rounded to a whole number): Conservative 42% Lib Dem 17% Labour 16% Independent (Rees) 15% Green 8% Reform 2% I'm now thinking Rees may well win this, on transfers. He is an ex police detective, and I suspect may well pick up a lot of second votes, so if he can make the final two, he should stand a good chance. I may even enter the prediction competition this time, just to be reckless.

This by-election really isn't capturing the imagination in any way.
But you can still enter the prediction competition for it anyway, deadline close of poll 19th August.

Wiltshire Council have just tweeted that they're counting tomorrow Are they counting in multiple places? Are the unitary elections counted in multiple places or just one (which I assume would be Trowbridge)? Which authority is the organising authority for this election - Wiltshire or Swindon?

Each authority will count its own votes. The lead authority and the one which supplies the Police Area Returning Officer which is Wiltshire.

The May count was in Salisbury for both authorities
