A previous Tory candidate for Wakefield will be all over the new Ossett seat like a cheap suit.
Put your last fiver on that.

Doncaster East and Axholme. Awful seat. What would you do instead? I'm not a great fan of that arrangement, but "Boothferry" necromancy putting Axholme with areas north of the Ouse strikes me as even worse. And the BCE seem committed to respecting the regional boundaries, so...

Doncaster East and Axholme. Awful seat. Most of us felt that this was the best solution, looking at the area as a whole. Why do you object so much?

Shameless self interest rather than genuine psephological reasons, I’m afraid. Cross county boundary seats are a write-off for my party, but I do recognise it’s a function of the EC having to deal with the ‘and Humber’ bit of Yorks & Humber. Still displeases me.

Honestly I think the only real question in Bradford is whether Great Horton gets swapped for Thornton & Allerton or Clayton & Fairweather Green. I agree a North constituency would be a much more elegant solution, but I'm pretty sure least change is going to win out. My first thought on looking at the map was ‘what is the alternative’ as the little blob of Fairweather Green dangling of the side of the new South is horrible - I guess it isnt the BCEs fault that the ward has one bit not actually connected by road to the rest though.

I have commented: "I would like to make a comment on the proposed Richmond (Yorkshire) constituency. I approve of the Commission's recommendations of the make up of the constituency, but would like to ask that the constituency name of "Richmondshire and Hambledon" be considered as an alternative to the proposed name. I would like to make this suggestion in line with other constituencies across the country which have combined local government areas with towns (for instance the proposed "North Warwickshire and Bedworth" constituency) as I feel that if towns being added to constituency names happens in one part of the country, but not the other, towns left out may feel aggrieved at the decision"

There is no town of Hambledon (or Hambleton). The district itself is split between three different constituencies. If you wanted to acknowledge more towns in the name then Richmond & Northallerton would make some sense - not that I would support that but it would make sense, whereas your comments make none (not untypically it has to be said)

Not a fan of the Calderdale/Batley/Spen arrangements. If the Commission had followed the logic of best communication links Brighouse would have been joined with Batley (following the route of the M62); that would cause Hipperholme/Lightcliffe to be transferred into Halifax ( as per islington); Halifax would claw back Warley but cede Rastrick to Calder Valley, which could adopt the historic name of Sowerby. We'll see...

Leeds is interesting. The wards never would have worked with such a low variance and indeed we see the consequences. Selby which includes Kippax and Methley? That's bad enough, but Wetherby and Easingwold? Maybe they should just rename it Yorkshire Leftovers and be more honest.
The abolishment of Leeds West has been noted. I'm not that surprised that there is reluctance in calling the Headingley seat 'Leeds West' considering that historically the seat covered areas now assigned to Pudsey, aside from Armley. Kirkstall has also been in the seat since the 80's though. I suspect calling the whole area Headingley will be rethought. However putting Kirkstall back with Headingley does make *a lot* of sense and might be the best part of the Leeds plan.
Old school Labour would be looking at the new Pudsey seat with a great deal of excitement. But nowadays the Pudsey ward has gone from solid Labour to favouring the Tories. But Bramley and Stanningley and Farnley and Wortley should shift this seat towards Labour. Rachel Reeves currently represents half the proposed seat. She could punt for it and leave the rest of Leeds West to Alex Sobel who would really struggle to win the new Leeds North West (expect a name change) which is an almost certain Tory gain unless some deal is worked out with the Liberals in Otley. Rachel however could conceivably try to get Headingley for herself, but Headingley and Weetwood (which could have been called Far Headingley) are a much better fit with Alex. I presume a deal will be done if these boundaries go ahead and my instinct is Rachel stands in Pudsey herself which would mean the Shadow Chancellor could lose the next election (which is a long way off so much could change).

It will no doubt attract attention from elsewhere too. its always going to have a Tory MP short of a Blair landslide or something.....and even then.

Unfortunately such a seat was unavoidable in these circumstances. It is worth noting that there has been at least one "cross-county" seat between Lincolnshire and Yorkshire since 1983 (Boothferry, 1983-97; Brigg & Goole, 1997-present)

The Leeds naming is a bit odd. It’s not like Headingley has a strong identity or history as an independent town. Why not do a Sheffield and mix compass points and suburbs and so call it Leeds Headingley (or just Leeds West)? I also think Leeds North West could be improved by calling it Aireborough and Wharfedale, but that would remove the Leeds link for those unfamiliar with the area. Airedale and Wharfedale would be more popular I would think, given it includes Horsforth. (Horsforth people don't really think they live in Airedale but they know they don't live in Aireborough). However I don't think Leeds NW is any less appropriate than the current constituency name. It has all been within the Leeds boundary for a long time and Otley is more "Yorkshire Dales" than Aireborough. People in Horsforth and Aireborough have been called "Pudsey" for decades which is certainly worse than Leeds NW.... So I don't object to "Airedale and Wharfedale" but it does give the impression that a mostly suburban seat is rather rural

True, it would be the safest Tory seat in West Yorks, I would think? Dewsbury and Huddersfield both safe Labour and Batley and Hipperholme marginal. Colne Valley more Tory. I guess Kirklees as a whole must be under quota to be grabbing bits of Calder sale and Wakefield but Batley and Hipperholme will not be popular..

I doubt if any deal with the Lib Dems in Otley would save Leeds NW for Labour. Rather I would think the Lib Dems would target it for second place. The new Pudsey should be a good bet for Labour though, I would think

Given it's four years since that election we would have won, on these boundaries, Shipley, Leeds NW, Colne Valley and Ossett & Denby Dale in 2017.

The new Pudsey should be a good bet for Labour though, I would think I agree that the new Pudsey seat is now much more likely to go for Labour and gun to the head I think Labour would indeed win. But after a full campaign and being fully worked by the two main parties things can change. Labour have recently been making gains in Calverley and Farsley even as Pudsey slips further from their grasp. As an aside, the good people of Bramley and Stanningley will be in for a bit of a shock since there hasn't been a competitive Westminster election there since the 80s.
