He was also - nomen est omen - on issues like abortion. And with its mining past in the north Idaho was - despite all the libertarian cowBoy-attitude, which finally prevailed - for a long time not hostile to federal subSidies and some natural conservation (Andrus, the secr. under Carter, had ousted the Rep. gov. on the latter). It was just finally overshadowed by his prominent stances against Vietnam&CIA and for federal Dem.-policies&Carter, what caused an A.B.Church-campaign and a narrow defeat.

Mondale flipped two in 1984 - Marin and Santa Cruz (both in the SF Bay Area).

Another Coroner election map. This one from the Magnolia State. This one is in ancestrally Democratic Webster County, Mississippi. The incumbent Democrat defeated a Republican in 2019 and since defected to them. This is a level of support among Trump voters that Brandon Presley can only dream of. Tate Reeves got over 70% of the vote in Webster Co. in 2019 despite a Dem winning this county office.
