No Republican has won San Francisco in a presidential election since 1956, and Reagan was no exception.

The large red district at the top is essentially the Presidio, isn't it, which would still have been an active military base in 84.

The bit around the north east coast I've been in fairly recently - and although it did seem like one of the less terrifying bits of San Francisco it certainly didn't seem like a Republican heartland.

Pennsylvania - Josh Shapiro walloped one of the most incompetent GOP nominees of the entire midterm cycle, in a state which elected a Republican governor in 2010

Look at that boost for Bill Clinton in Arkansas and Al Gore in Tennessee. The home state effect is much less now.

Herschel Walker fell flat last year, whereas someone like ex Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black may have won. Fayette Co. (southwest of Fulton) could go blue in 2024.

Brian Kemp challenging Jon Ossoff in 2026 when he’ll be term-limited as governor would be interesting. But obviously the fundamentals will also be influenced by who is in the White House

Blue Dog Democrats abounded in George W. Bush's first outing The Democrat strength in the South lasted longer at Congressional level than at Presidential level, hence they kept hold of the House for so long

Reagan axing the fairness doctrine in the media (where you needed balance on issues) helped polarisation no end, IMO.
