The MSM has been on a journey. They no longer even pretend to be neutral. To an extent, the left-wing MSM are following a trajectory set by the right win MSM and to an extent its events Dear Boy, the Climate Crisis and Covid sent the left-wing MSM down a rabbit hole But the 24-hour rolling media failed to understand that there is no hurry. You don't have to curtail an interview to go to an ad break, or to go to a trailer, or the news, or the weather. So the routine of Question-partial answer-interruption-2nd partial answer question-partial answer-sorry we have to leave it - he didn't really answer the question. does not cut it. The audience see through it and the interviewee sees through into. So they do an hour-long podcast where they don't get shafted or they run away from it in case they run out of message. Joe Rogan and Triggernomertry killed the BBC and MSNBC This ignores the fact that the SSM has been shown to be subsidised and funded by the Russians via shadowy middle companies such as Tenet Media. So that far right "citizen journalists" like Tim Pool, David Rubin and Benny Johnson get sponsored to spout their crap and the grotesque Alex Jones declares Infowars bankrupt rather than paying the money he owes. You can carry on supporting the billionaire-backed and state-backed MSM if you like

The USA imprisons its poor and pardons its Presidents. The USA isn't a democratic country. Getting let off essentially by popular vote is more democratic. You could argue too democratic. This is quite spot on. Amongst many other things, the election was a referendum on whether or not Trump should go to jail. The US voters decided that he should not. What was that quote… “a government of laws and not men”?? That’s another norm that Trump has trashed. John Roberts really should be ashamed of himself.

The USA imprisons its poor and pardons its Presidents. The USA isn't a democratic country. That BTW is not the measure of democracy. And in any case, the USA, quite specifically, is a Republic. It may seem harsh to ask you to reflect on your contribution to Trumpo's victory given that you rarely leave Preston but you are emblematic of a type of US voter. When I ask "you" I am by extension asking "them" You managed to lose to Donald John Trump for the Love of Christ. Is there any self reflection called for? What if anything, in your opinion, did people like you get so catastrophically wrong? In hindsight it is obvious that the incumbents were beaten in a ‘kick the bastards out’ election, and given historical trends it should have been a landslide. Over 2022/24 Republicans had a pretty good shot at a Senate supermajority, up against a historically unpopular administration, which they ended up not getting close to. Yet I see precious little reflection from the right over how they blew it so catastrophically Democrats can do all the reflection in the world, but fundamentally it is not they who need to reflect. They have a sane, governable coalition who allow them to win about half the time (well over half in terms of the popular vote). On the other hand, Republicans have allowed their party to be taken over by a narcissistic sociopath and wannabe dictator whose agenda (let’s see how much he implements) would crash the US economy. We know from his previous term that he was pretty well incapable of governing, and in the past 2 years the House Republicans have shown themselves to be even more incapable (and no, before you say it, no that’s not the point - there is stuff they want to pass). Nonetheless, in a polarised system they still win about half the time, and after record inflation under the Democrats this election was going to be one of them. It’s pretty clear which party is sick and needs to reflect, if it wants to be able not just to win a 50-50 election but to pass an agenda aligned with its voters’ priorities.

In the places you look maybe, in the real world places that matter, not so much. Huge redundancies have been announced at MSNBC and CNN (was it CNN? I forget. It was one of the large broadcasters) since polling day. I'm not sure what 'real world' you inhabit I wasn’t referring to the media bit, more the first two paragraphs (and also the opinion of X which has descended beyond cesspit to the point where Dan Hodges is a voice of moderation and common sense).

In theory (but won’t happen because the Republicans control Congress) he could be impeached on the basis of the crimes of which he has been convicted, although his defence team are seeking to have these particular convictions quashed rather than put in abeyance. Its a complicated one, the concept that the American people have pardoned Trump has some merit even though that’s not technically how the law is meant to work I’m not sure they have, exit polling seems to be showing a distinct lack of awareness of the charges/convictions, mixed with the usual dash of those who know but think it’s all a politically motivated hatchet job, and others who hold their noses and vote for anyway because they think he’ll fix the economy which (forgive the pun) trumps every other consideration.

Don't disagree that Republicans being taken over by Trump is a Bad Thing. But he's old and his hold will pass. Trump was damaged goods and his obsession with election cheating was damaging him further. His rehabilitation was down to his opponents. And until they own that this will keep happening.

Notably the Teamsters declined to endorse Harris. I thought they did internal polling, the effect of which is the leadership declined to endorse Trump

It looks like Harris will still finish behind in votes, but Trump may end up with less than the psychologically important 50% of the votes

Notably the Teamsters declined to endorse Harris. I thought they did internal polling, the effect of which is the leadership declined to endorse Trump They did, officially they remained nationally neutral, the President spoke at the Republican National Convention and it’s thought he intended for the union to endorse Trump but the internal polling you referred to showed it wouldn’t have carried the membership and would have had the all round negative effect of splitting the union. As a result they remained officially neutral although a number of local chapters did endorse Harris.

You can carry on supporting the billionaire-backed and state-backed MSM if you like But I don't support sources owned by Paul Marshall, GBNews, Elon Musk, The Murdochs, Ike Perlmutter, the Barclays, the Russian state, the Rothermeres, Putin, Donald Trump, Robert Herring or Jan Koum. I do try.

Shortly to be ex Oregon Rep, hers is one of the Districts the Democrats flipped. Reagan Democrats, Jackie Presser? The leadership claims that Trump’s “America First” economic policies are better for his members, the other argument is that he thought he was going to be Labor Secretary in Biden’s cabinet and this was revenge.

Immunity from prosecution is a perk of being a parliamentarian that really is dreadful and it's a good thing that we don't have it in the UK (or America). Some legislatures even reserve the right to block police from arresting their members without their permission!
