If you have started looking at the Town & Parish by-elections then there are two by-elections for Darley Dale Town Council in deepest Derbyshire. North and South ward - 1 vacancy in each. Candidates - North: Independent & Fresh Start; South: Fresh Start & Labour
Darley Dale ward on the district council is usually a bit of a three way marginal - one of the few interesting wards in a safe Tory district.

Here is some background to the by-elections in the Darley Dale North and Darley Dale South wards of Darley Dale Town Council in the District of Derbyshire Dales.
Darley Dale Town Council comprises 12 members, elected from two wards as follows – Darley Dale North (7) and Darley Dale South (5).
The entire parish is coterminous with the district ward of Darley Dale.
The council strengths were as follows:
Elections on 3 May 2007: Fresh Start 10, Lib Dem 2
Elections on 5 May 2011: Fresh Start 12
The current town mayor and deputy town mayor are Fresh Start.

The result of the by-election in Darley Dale South ward on 16 August 2012 was: Fresh Start 201, Independent 66, Independent 53, Independent 46
The Fresh Start group came into being 10 years ago with two main objectives: • To prevent development of the green fields in Darley Dale • To make life easier and more pleasant for the residents of Darley Dale.
Seven of the twelve councilors elected in 2011 were new to the council. Three of the new councillors resigned shortly after the elections and two more of the newcomers have resigned to cause the current March by-elections.
There has been some criticism that Fresh Start councillors stop being councillors as time goes by. John Evans, the Chairman of the Fresh Start group, defended the position. “That’s life! People change jobs, or family circumstances change – and they give up public life”.
Phil Dodds and Joanne Nuttall (Darley Dale North) and Darran Nuttall (Darley Dale South) resigned in 2011 and Jason Atkin and Julie Morrison (Darley Dale North) and Ian Walker (Darley Dale South) were co-opted to replace them.
John Evans (Fresh Start) held the Darley Dale South by-election on 16 August 2012, following the resignation of Tony Brookes (Fresh Start). John Evans had stood down at the 2011 elections, after serving for a number of years as the Town Mayor. He returned to the council in this by-election.
The by-election on 14 March in Darley Dale North ward is caused by the resignation of Paul Diggle (Fresh Start) and the by-election in Darley Dale South ward is caused by the resignation of Rhiannon Kennion (Fresh Start).
The two candidates in the Darley Dale North by-election are Independent and Fresh Start and the two candidates in the Darley Dale South by-election are Fresh Start and Labour.
The result in the Darley Dale ward of Derbyshire Dales Council on 3 May 2007 was Lib Dem 1016/978/934, Con 541, Independents 471/456. Elected: Lib Dem 3
The result in the Darley Dale ward of Derbyshire Dales Council on 5 May 2011 was Lib Dem 731/729/694, Con 720/688/610, Lab 578/554/512. Elected: Lib Dem 2, Con 1

Labour have held Royton South. Waiting for full figures, though people at the count are already poking fun at a very low Lib Dem total.

Labour have held Royton South. Waiting for full figures, though people at the count are already poking fun at a very low Lib Dem total. Unless the figure David has posted is wrong that is a reasonably good Lib Dem result, better than 2011 and 2012. And gives me a poor predictions score. However if they actually only got 121 then I will have done somewhat better!

About 15% is still a crap Lib Dem result in a ward they've won recently. It's just that in that bit of the world crap results for the Lib Dems have become mundane.
