Indeed, that was was delayed due to the death of the Lib Dem candidate. I wanted to say Leek South but I got that confused, that was a gain from UKIP. Was there not somewhere in Staffordshire Moorlands though, a while back? Are you thinking of the Leek South by-election last year caused by the death of the UKIP incumbent, that was won by former Moorlands MP Charlotte Atkins? Are you thinking of the Leek North by-election last year caused by the death of the UKIP incumbent, that was won by former Moorlands MP Charlotte Atkins?

Yes, I agree and with that stunning result from St Edmonds Town Council by election indicates that we're on course to win in 2015!

Are you thinking of the Leek North by-election last year caused by the death of the UKIP incumbent, that was won by former Moorlands MP Charlotte Atkins? There were by-elections in both Leek North for the district council (which Charlotte Atkins won) and Leek South for the County council which was regained by the former Conservative county councillor

So, after ceding control of Bury St. Edmunds Town Council in 2011 by failing to field candidates, the Conservatives have regained control, winning back a seat in their traditional territory. The Conservatives took both Risbygate seats in 2007, but did not put up candidates in 2011, leaving Labour to take the seats unopposed.
A confusing political situation – Risbygate is usually Conservative and Independent territory. In 2011 Labour not only picked up the 2 Risbygate seats unopposed, but also took control of the town council itself with 7 councillors returned unopposed and a further 2 elected, giving Labour an overall majority of 1.
When the first vacancy arose in Risbygate ward last September, a by-election was not called and Labour held control of the town council by co-opting another Labour councilor. The St. Edmundsbury borough council by-election last November in Risbygate resulted in a Green Party gain from Conservative. Now the Conservatives have won the town council by-election to win overall control of the town council.
Bury St. Edmunds Town Council comprises 17 members, elected from nine wards as follows – Abbeygate (2), Eastgate (1), Minden (2), Moreton Hall (3), Northgate (1), Risbygate (2), St. Olaves (2), Southgate (2) and Westgate (2).
Risbygate town ward is coterminous with the St. Edmundsbury borough ward of the same name.
The council strengths were as follows:
Elections on 1 May 2007: Abolish Bury Town Council 10, Con 5, Lab 2 Elections on 5 May 2011: Lab 9, Con 7, Ind 1 7 Labour candidates in 4 wards were elected unopposed
On 20 September 2012, Pete Thompson (Con) was elected unopposed in Eastgate ward, following the resignation of David Nettleton (Independent).
On 28 November 2012, the town council co-opted Richard O’Driscoll (Lab) to fill the vacancy in Risbygate ward, following the resignation of Neil Moffat (Lab).
On 17 January 2013, Robert Everitt (Con) held the Abbeygate by-election, following the resignation of Richard Rout (Con).
The current town mayor and the deputy mayor are Labour.
The result in Risbygate ward on 3 May 2007 was: Con 400/378, Abolish Bury Town Council 275/255, Lab 264/264 Elected – Con 2
The result in Risbygate ward on 5 May 2011 was Lab 2 unopposed.
The by-election on 14 March 2013 was caused by the resignation of Ross Taylor (Lab), who left to pursue a new career in Surrey. The result was Con 198, Lab 186 Con gain from Lab.
The composition of the council is now Con 9, Lab 8.
The result in the Risbygate ward of St. Edmundsbury Borough Council on 3 May 2007 was Independent 548, Con 381/373, Lab 232/231 Elected – Independent 1, Con 1
The result in the Risbygate ward of St. Edmundsbury Borough Council on 5 May 2011 was Independent 840, Con 520, Green Party 450, Lab 266/198 Elected – Independent 1, Con 1
The result in the Risbygate ward of St. Edmundsbury Borough Council on 15 November 2012 was Green Party 394, Con 239, Lab 128 Green Party gain from Con The by-election was caused by the resignation of Joshua Hordern (Con).

I guess the electorate who returned a majority Abolish the Town Council slate in 2007 were left dissappointed?

Yes - although Abolish Bury Town Council won the election 2007, the Conservatives took control in March 2008, following by-elections and defections.

Fresh Start have maintained their iron grip of Darley Dale Town Council in Derbyshire Dales District.
Darley Dale North: Fresh Start 266, Independent 215 Darley Dale South: Fresh Start 238, Labour 95
So Fresh Start retain 100% of the seats on the town council.

No surprise there. Having controlled the council for at least the last 6 years, how long before 'Fresh Start' becomes somewhat ironic as a ballot paper description?

Are you thinking of the Leek South by-election last year caused by the death of the UKIP incumbent, that was won by former Moorlands MP Charlotte Atkins? Are you thinking of the Leek North by-election last year caused by the death of the UKIP incumbent, that was won by former Moorlands MP Charlotte Atkins? Very probably; was working from memory which is always a bad idea with my memory! I think Leek South was the County Council Division represented by the same UKIP councillor, Steve Povey, that the Conservatives gained in the by-election held on the same night as the District Council by-election.
