What is the sacred text of Psephology I wonder? Butler and Stokes Certainly the " Old Testament " of Psephology .... with Butler and Kavanagh being the " New Testament " perhaps .....

Pretry obvious that there are many councillors who intended to stand down who aren't doing so. I assume those who have moved, have issues which led to their proposed resignation etc, are just making sure they sign into Zoom once every six months for a meeting and are doing nothing else.

Anyway I attended a Council meeting this afternoon so I'm okay until December! (Just in case, I had better make it clear this is intended as a fairly feeble joke...)

Vacancy on Elmbridge Borough Council for Cobham & Downside. Mike Bennison (elected Cons, sitting as Brexit Party since September) expelled on 5 June for non-attendance. His term ends next May. He remains a Surrey County Councillor.

The division he represents is actually named 'Pendle Hill'. If he resigned some of the same people complaining now would no doubt start moaning about having no representation for the next year.

One truly mad scheme discussed by some AEA Members was to have different elections on different days on or around May 6th - it might make counting easier but I can imagine the turnout if voters were to be asked to vote on three or more different days in the space of a couple of weeks! That mad scheme died a deserved death before it saw the light of day. Might be possible however to hold all the voting on one day, but hold a series of counts over seperate days where there are multiple elections taking place, especially places like Bristol who will have four ballot papers per elector to contend with. Did they not do this last time? Counted the Police and Crime Commissioner on the Friday because of the need to feed into the regional results, Elected Mayor on Saturday, whole council on Sunday?

It is not clear that he is doing any representation. Right now, it is unclear what a lot of councillors are doing.

Does emphasize the problem of councillors not being replaced if they have to stand down.
