Interesting that ACT appear to be much more of a genuinely libertarian party rather than populist. I forgot to mention they also oppose the 2019 ban on semi automatic weapons. Which also fits the libertarian agenda - or at least, can do. I agree on some aspects of that agenda but not others

Polls close 7 AM Saturday morning in UK time so don't have a late night on Friday (if government restrictions let you). You need a VPN to watch: www.tvnz.co.nz/livetv/tvnz-1

Alternatively, The New Zealand Herald and Newstalk are doing a results programme on YouTube as well.

Do they have UK style declarations in New Zealand or is it like Australia / Canada / USA where you have a "percentage reporting" situation? Can't believe I haven't watched a New Zealand election before.

I think it's by polling station.
New Zealand counts various advanced votes on the day (helped by laws banning campaigning so activists have nothing else to do but observe) so a lot will be available even sooner than elsewhere.

Interesting that ACT appear to be much more of a genuinely libertarian party rather than populist. I suppose it comes from their background being founded by men of stature. A bit like the first incarnation of the AfD.

Would your hypothetical ideal ‘libertarian’ party also support locking people in their houses for an indefinite period of time?

No, it would have avoided that by not foolishly opening up risky parts of the economy in the first place, and by spending the money it wasted on getting people to eat more junk food instead on a better test & trace system.

Neither of which are particularly libertarian, and in my view would have made little difference. Interesting that the stance of UnHerd and Spiked, which often meets with your approval, never get mentioned on this topic!!

Unherd and Spiked are superb on freedom of speech issues, but that doesn't mean they have to be great everywhere - no one and no thing is perfect on every issue. As I've said numerous times, I'm a (libertarian) liberal, not a libertarian; and I work in the field of disease modelling so I cannot separate my own experience of likely outcomes from my politics.

I would say the opposite. I agree with them on the opposition to lockdown, and backing for herd immunity, but less so on the tired anti-woke rants. I think there is virtually nothing we agree on!

We agree on the fact that they aren't always right

Interesting that ACT appear to be much more of a genuinely libertarian party rather than populist. It traditionally was a libertarian party. Used to follow it closely in the mid 2000s when I was broadly a liberterian. Anyway good to see that they still exist outside Epsom.

I note with bemusement that Judith Collins' Twitter account is private. Apparently she tweeted a controversial remark about obesity recently, so that may be the reason.

Was it a comment about the link between obesity and corona? Something along the lines of "it's their own fault, they should deal with it". Not entirely wrong perhaps, but a stupid thing for a front line politician to say.

The polling day campaigning ban also requires materials to be taken down but I don't know if that applies to Twitter.
