Aberdeen are counting tomorrow. Of course. Avoids paying the staff overtime.

I can’t remember the year, but I was Agent for an incumbent councillor who came home, armed with a bag of chips at about 9.45, and said “that’s it for another year, we’ve done all we can“. I just casually remarked “I assume you voted for yourself”.:..his fish and chips were delicious. I once spent an afternoon slogging round a pretty grim housing estate with a leaflet that was a good 3 hours too late. Got back to the committee rooms (the agent's house) at around 6 to ask what I should do next. Couple of people there, but no sign of the agent. "Where's xxxxx ?" "Oh, she's washing her hair ready for the count." "But, but ... what about knocking up?" "Oh she says everything's been done."I went home. (This was a parliamentary election in - supposedly - a target seat. We didn't win.) OMG. Which year?

They'll be able to produce a great bar chart with that.

Great effort by the Greens, what a pity they couldn't find another 20 votes. The promise that it would be close was certainly right.

Gutted. But from never having had a Green on the council before May, what a bloody good showing. We're starting to really learn how to do by-elections properly.

Whitchurch and Tongwynlais turnout 33.77% (4,251 votes). So 6 hours ago Plaid were claiming turnout was "extremely low". Or did they just mean their own turnout was...

Bit of a swing to Con although the 3 seats and last time and lack of Indy this time make it tricky

That’s a bit better Conservative result than the other Taunton by election 2 weeks ago. Swing is not very meaningful . The big Green vote in May was obviously due to the lack of a Lib Dem full slate. The Tory vote in May was lower partly due to having an Independent ex Tory standing Lib Dem 53.7% (+17.6) Con 38.6% (+21.2) Green 5.2% (-13.4) Lab 2.4% (-5.2) And of course, as has been said the Lib Dem winner was the Conservative councillor for the ward until May

Bit of a swing to Con although the 3 seats and last time and lack of Indy this time make it tricky IIRC the indy last time was ex-Conservative so some vote might have returned that way. But 50%+ is never to be sneezed at. And it consolidates our majority on the council.
