Tom Copley has not been known to borrow anyone's grey mare, so far as I have heard anyway. In December 1894 the candidates for the Widdecombe in the Moor division of the Newton Abbot Union in Devon were :
Baron J M Hochpied Mr H Hannaford Mr J Harvey.
Joshua Widdecombe was one of the candidates for the Chudleigh division.

Any relation of Ann?

Any relation of Ann? Who can say? But i bet she's traced her family history. Relatively easy name to trace i would have thought, with a limited geographical spread historically.

The present day comedian Josh Widdecombe is apparently not a relation of Anne (at least within the last few generations), so the name has enough variation that they might not be.

Widecombe-in-the-Moor is now normally spelt with a single "d". But these things change over time.

Is it worth archiving this thread now? Any new vacancies would ordinarily have been taken on or after May 7th and it seems wrong to be contributing to a by-elections thread when they have been outlawed! Perhaps a new thread "Ongoing Council Vacancies March 2020 onwards" AdminSTB ?

This thread lasts till the end of April, which is only a month away. Might as well leave it and start a new thread then imho. Vacancies are still happening after all. I suppose the name could be changed, but May to April is basically following the municipal year, which seems logical.

Although in this particular instance I have the luxury of agreeing with peterl.

Sad to report the death of Shabnum Sadiq, Labour, Slough UA, from Covid-19. If it has been reported elsewhere I apologize If that was out of my latest Preview, then all I can say is that there was a delay in publication. I wrote that about three weeks ago but it's only just been published.

AdminSTB - could we unsticky this one and sticky the current one, please.

I can do that, but which thread is supposed to be the "current" one? March 2020 onwards. Thanks. That thread has now been stickied and this one unstickied.
