It has to be mentioned, that Rivera - knowing, that he will not become the leader of the Right (soonly) - has made an apertura a sinistra and is now (more) open for a coalition with PSOE. But: After causing EarlyElections PSOE might have a majority neither with UP and MasEspana nor with Cs...

Ciudadanos were very silly when they propped up local and regional governments alongside VOX. They lost swathes of liberal voters and the young, who do not want to see a return to what they see a Francist policies on minority and women's rights.
They allowed their nationalist streak, which has done so well for them in Catalonia, to spill out into the rest of the country.

Incidentally... mods, can we split the recent posts on this thread off and put them into a new thread called "Spanish General Election 2019b" or something? Or at least reopen the poll.

Good to see Partido Popular and Vox rose a bit there.

Good to see Partido Popular and Vox rose a bit there. Public pollster CIS came out with PSOE&UP alone at 47%, though.

But at least they're not the "post"-Falangist Partido Popular, an organization that should be an embarrassment even to the disgrace that is the EPP.

Look, I'm going to be brutally honest DW. I want Catalan seperatism crushed lest it provide inspiration in Scotland and I want the migration crisis dealt with forthwith as it's beginning to undermine people's faith in democracy and give rise to totalitarian instincts. We've seen this movie before and we know where it ends, so we must deal with the problem. The centre wants to prop up Haftar and Erdogan and the left want to open the borders and just let regions fly off of countries as they please. That would be a disaster and we both know it. The best hope to deal with these in the Spanish context is a PP government with Vox on their tail.

I was talking about early 30s Germany. The likes of Hugenberg and Von Papen certainly approached what they ostensibly believed to be the problems head on, while the same backers present in previous governments reaped massive profits. The rise of reactionary authoritarians has more to do with the shrinking middle class than much else. Our populations are splitting across Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and, naturally, they share fewer interests as a result.

I'm also not advocating that it's put in power either.

The best hope to deal with these in the Spanish context is a PP government with Vox on their tail. I can understand the logic, I really can. But these are something else. When people lazily condemn parties as far-Right elsewhere in Europe, it is infuriating. But these are the real deal. And of course they loudly insist on a claim to British territory. Catalan nationalism will ultimately implode under its own contradictions. A middle-class phenomenon based on the simultaneous rejection and exploitation of other Spanish labour, which refuses claims to its territory but insists it is entitled to the territory of Valencians and the Balearics... it cannot last.
