someone had to drain the claret swamp. and drain the claret he did Although he always preferred Burgundy apparently, and used to get quite annoyed whenever the claret-quaffing trope came up.

I will stick my neck out and predict a labour win with a slim majority perhaps due to some of the more Brexit minded conservative voters sitting on their hands. Maj in the region of 1-2k. Any by-election in this seat will not take place before February at the VERY earliest, more likely not until the Summer at least. So the Brexit effect is entirely unpredictable given that we have no idea yet just how Brexit will pan out. Much of this seat is quite "hard line" Brexit ..... not only did Leave get a large majority in the referendum but an unusual number of those Leavers are unwavering "leave at any cost" opponents of the EU. Given that the by-election should be post-Brexit, the nature of that Brexit will determine whether the Conservatives get a Brexit Bonus or a significant Brexit penalty in this seat. The more the Government is seen to be achieving or to have achieved a hard Brexit the better for the Conservatives in Peterborough. Peterborough really is at or very near to the extreme end of the spectrum in terms of Brexit's political effect.

The first "Out of Touch" leaflet is no doubt coming soon.

So a by-election is in the hands of the judge. when is Labour selecting their candidate?

The first "Out of Touch" leaflet is no doubt coming soon. Fiona Onasanya won't be on the ballot paper though (not as the Labour candidate at any rate) and Labour have already given her the boot, so will anything stick to the party? This will be a big test of the recall system. Ian Paisley couldn't be shifted, can it work without the sectarian context? I wouldn't be certain, especially if she only gets a suspended sentence. The North Antrim petition was criticised for only having three sites to sign it - urban Peterborough might only have one at the Town Hall? All this discussion of a by election assumes she won't appeal of course. Unless she's indicated there won't be one, are Labour right to effectively sack her already?

A woman with few options now, and it seems, even fewer friends (politically speaking at least).
I note that Mr Lavery says Labour would look forward to a by election. I can almost understand why.

I still find it bizarre that she just didn't accept the fine for speeding.

What happens to your pension rights if you are removed from Parliament?

I still find it bizarre that she just didn't accept the fine for speeding. The belligerent response as well, as if she'd been fitted up by The Man who made her drive her car at speed and then forced her to blame a Russian bloke.

Most embarrassing of all. Imagine having your integrity and character judged by Ian Lavery!

I still find it bizarre that she just didn't accept the fine for speeding. Unfortunately, we see this in politics (and other "important" roles) at all different levels and from right across the political spectrum: quite a number of individuals see themselves as too important to be constrained by the "petty" rules that "ordinary" people need to follow.

Conservative leaflet: References speeding on the front That leaflet is terrible. There are bars of colour which aren't misleading?
