A nastier thought: Stephen Yaxley-Lennon/"Tommy Robinson" might feel as if he could do well in this seat, especially given the general political environment. How about the following SOPN, eh? Labour - Helen Clark Conservative - Stewart Jackson Liberal Democrat - Gary LinekerIndependent - George Galloway Pro-Brexit something or other party - Nigel Farage SDP - Patrick O'Flynn UKIP - Tommy Robinson Surely Lembit Öpik ? Please no. But is there any evidence of Gary Lineker being a Lib Dem member? Anyway, we already have a PPC selected, name Becki Sellick.

Even though it has a very marginal majority, this would be yet another by-election in a Labour-held seat. What percentage of GB parliamentary by-elections since the 2010 Coalition was formed have been in Labour-held seats?
John Major was pretty unlikely on this matter in the 1990s, in hindsight.

Assuming there is going to be a byelection, what do we think about the possibility of Patrick O'Flynn standing for the SDP, he looks set to be unemployed shortly, lives not that far away, must have some name recognition in the constituency, a good opportunity to get some traction for his new party. Peterborough should be somewhere where they could do well.
Peterborough still has a Liberal Party councillor, so maybe the Liberals and Social Democrats will go head-to-head?
I think this forum would collectively wet itself if this happened.

That story is erroneous. There were rumours, but she ultimately disvowed them and rejoined Labour in 2010.

What I don't get is why lie about a minor speeding charge? Particularly when she must be aware of Chris Huene....I may have forgotten how to spell his name now.

It is not even certain that there will be a byelection. Fiona Onasanya is entitled to appeal. She might well given all that is at stake. It's life changing for her

Well, indeed. Note her pre-Parliamentary career was as a solicitor. The Law Society takes a very dim view of any solicitor found guilty of a criminal offence which involves dishonesty: striking off the roll is pretty much automatic.

Seven of the ten between '15 and '17 were Labour held defenses. 12 Labour MPs have died since the last Conservative MP to die in office - Eric Forth in 2006

It's life changing for her Having wasted two trials-worth of public money trying to defend herself with a pretty flimsy case, I hope she thinks twice if not three times about that and then accepts her fate. The case against her was overwhelming. Huhne saw that before his trial and decided to plead guilty. She should now belatedly accept that she was done bang to rights.

Are you going for under-statement of the year, David? This is almost certainly going to result in a term of imprisonment, I would have thought. Not quite as bad a Chris Huhne because she hasn't instigated another person to lie for her as far as I know. So, maybe three or four months would appear to be the order of the day. What are we on, Chiltern or Northstead. A hundred pound fine and three point, or a Driver Awareness course must look pretty attractive from where she is sitting now
