There's have been mutterings in recent days about Philip Howson, who is county councillor for Peavehaven and Telscombe Towns, and district and town councillor for Peacehaven East. If it is him (or in fact any Lewes district counillor), it will mean the Conservatives will have lost their majority on Lewes District Council.

Star Pumpkin is reporting 4 defections of Councillors Stephanie Todd, Sam Cross, Mick Jay-Hanmer & Phil Howson.

A non-defection: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-22307221It's somewhat depressing the Leader of the Opposition has manoeuvred himself into the position where he's forced to deny this fascist scumbag is coming back into his party.

It *is* depressing, but not for the reason you state. Why was this complete non-story "leaked" months after it actually happened, for a start??

In which Galloway's party are standing just about nowhere, so there's little reason for him to leak it now in particular. And if it was somebody in Labour, that's particularly depressing. I favour tarring and feathering for party staffers undermining local campaigns in order to improve their position in inter-factional Westminster squabbles.

But I think most party members feel like I do - we're making steady progress and we're about where we need to be at this stage of the game. It doesn't come over that way to me. I get the impression that many Labour activists think that its all over bar the shouting. For Wakefield Labour activists, that's probably true. But for them, it more or less is. Elsewhere things may be somewhat more up in the air.

I assume you read the local rag and see how they react in public. But probably don't drink at the Red Shed.

What price defections from the Green Benches if today's elections turn out to be ejections?

There has been a steady trickle of defections to UKIP this year, mostly from the Tories. These have happened at a time when UKIP have still not yet demonstrated their ability to win many local seats. I would suspect there must be quite a few more who would consider switching but who put off by UKIP's history of doing poorly in local elections. If UKIP do manage to get 150+ plus elected people will starting thinking 'I could win re-election with a UKIP label' and you'll see a big increase in defections to UKIP. Well UKIP just won 147 in the County and Unitary elections and another 6 district by elections. That makes 153. I think I'll stick by my prediction, I'll think we'll see a fair number of defections later this month and after.

well still not got the whip back and some on the right in the press think this is a slight. It could be that she is a totally pathetic MP and UKIP would be advised to keep their distance from her.

I think shes about the kipper average personality wise. Would be a gamble for both them and her. Doubt it will happen, or that she would be re-elected as a kipper.

I know someone who is high up in the local Tories there, his facebook comments about her, well shows the disdain some hold her in.
