So, a new five member Derbyshire Localist group
What procedural advantages flow from being a five-member group that the three Libs Dems did not have? Committee places? Chairmanships? Turn at being Mayor? Trip to Poland?
Was the Conservative passed over or disrespected within the Conservatives? Or is there a leader that he cannot abide?
Will they morph back to being Liberal Democrats in two years time? Is this a Lib Dem expansion strategy by degrees?

Unintentionally hilarious, as among the three Lib Dems defecting to this seemingly hubristic vehicle are two members who stood for national election for that party on July's general election...

Same as the Lib Dem to Indy defection in Ed Davey's backyard earlier this year. There the hopeless GE paper candidacy was offered as a bribe to keep her on board (and to stop her standing against the Lib Dems somewhere where it may have mattered), but ultimately made no difference. Could the same apply here? (Although I don't think there are many LD target seats in and around Derbyshire).

And Sheffield Hallam is just over the border (and much of it was formerly in Derbyshire).

They have apparently said something about lack of regional support, but that seems a rather underwhelming basis for all three to defect

Given that in the recent election you were fifth with 6.1% of the vote, there must surely be better prospects nearby?

I imagine that we'd quite like to get Chesterfield back. And Sheffield Hallam is just over the border (and much of it was formerly in Derbyshire). Given that in the recent election you were fifth with 6.1% of the vote, there must surely be better prospects nearby? Not a target at the last election, so little or no money spent there. The same is true of a number of other seats where we have reasonable local government presence. In these seats spending by other parties will have worked to depress our vote. And Chesterfield activists will have been advised to head up the A61 to Hallam, in vain as it happened.

Highland, Thurso & North West Caithness (2027). Struan Mackie, Independent (elected as Conservative) to Liberal Democrat. I think I dislike every single component of that including both his forename and surname

She was in talks with the Indies on Kingston Council before the election with a view to defecting. I believe the correspondence was given to the party when she announced she was standing in Manchester. Maybe talk to your mates in the NW?

I'm very much a non-playing captain these days,. Pleasant town, quite wanderable, nice war memorial, nice pubs, really rather good Indian resto considering much better than Wick which I visited the next day.

Tim Montgomerie, formerly of ConservativeHome, has now joined Reform UK Maybe the current Conservative Party will just become mainstream and central/centrist by virtue of all the extremists fleeing to the Farage -Musk Evangelical Society?
