I'm not aware that it has been in the recent past. I know that Luciana Berger has rejoined the Labour Party, but it was not until 3 years had elapsed since the 2019 election, which is what the rules stipulate. And few anti-Labour candidates in that election have elicited the sympathy that she has, at least amongst those of us who have some human empathy re the appalling racism she faced. Mike Gapes rejoined more recently than that. Salma Yaqoob, stood against you in Bradford in 2017 but was in the Labour mayoral election in late 2019. There's a difference between being a rival that "sees the light" and joins you, and a member that defects and then stands against you, I think. I'm not aware of Salma Yaqoob having been a Labour member prior to joining in 2018/19 or whenever it was (she was in the Hall Green Labour team at the GE 2019 count),

She was regarded at the time as very fortunate to be allowed to go up for selection in that, and indeed to be admitted to the party.

If you take the rule literally, it means that any incumbent that defects to Labour will be automatically expelled, as they stood against Labour to be elected in the first place.

She was regarded at the time as very fortunate to be allowed to go up for selection in that, and indeed to be admitted to the party. Let's be honest, she was admitted because of the number of followers she had that would now be expected to loyally vote Labour having previously voted Respect. I confess to not being aware of anything she's said on the subject of Gaza. Can anyone help here?

It's a rumour so far, but thought it worth logging: six Tory GE candidates considering defecting to Reform Andrea Jenkyns submitted a no confidence letter in Sunak so she would be a good guess. She has been pictured with Farage on an election leaflet, so trying to have her cake and eat it.

In Hackney, a new group rises: Hackney, Clissold (2026). Fliss Premru, Independent to Hackney Independent Socialist Group. Hackney, Victoria (2026). Claudia Turbet-Delof, Independent to Hackney Independent Socialist Group. Hackney, Victoria (2026). Penny Wrout, Independent to Hackney Independent Socialist Group. All three originally elected as Labour. Any idea why?

I estimate that Labour, having won the ward 47% to 24% in 2022, took 44% there in the 2023 mayoral election to around 26% for the Greens, based on the swing from 2022. The Greens were 600 votes off a seat in Clissold last time and held the ward from 2006 to 2010. They will win in 2026 if Labour is in power at Westminster since they've got history there. Plus Stoke Newington demography is getting more favourable to the Greens in Clissold, Dalston, Hackney Downs, and Stoke Newington with trains to Liverpool Street.

Redbridge (Churchfields Ward) Rosa Gomez LAB => IND
Plus 'Fifty members' of Labour in Chingford and Woodford Green have resigned from the party, citing the treatment of their former candidate Faiza Shaheen.

I feel a little conflicted over this matter. I cannot really justify what's happened to Faiza Shaheen, but it's quid pro quo for what Corbynites did in the past. As the Labour candidate for Chingford many years ago, against Norman Tebbit, I do desperately hope that all this doesn't enable Duncan-Smith to survive.

East Sussex, Bexhill North (2025). Abul Azad, Conservative to Independent. Beforehand the Conservatives had exactly half the seats. The new make-up is: 24 Con, 12 LD, 5 Green, 5 Lab, 2 Independent, 2 Independent Democrats.
