I know it is off topic, but returning to earlier posts, I ended up back at the emergency dentist's on Sunday afternoon (missed both of the Man United goals, sigh). Now fully pain-free for the first time in 5 days. Dental nerve pain is hell, it affected my right eye very badly.

Glad for your relief. Perhaps a little medicinal whisky?

Thankfully, exhaustion from sleepless nights and having 6 funerals will knock me out. I can put off the medicinal whisky (and whiskey), until Easter. If it cones back, Laphroig to the rescue, God'll understand.

I had my extraction on Thursday, I woke up a few minutes ago with the post-extraction aching pain. I've been stomping around the room waiting for a couple of paracetamol to take effect. My last extraction was 40 years ago, so I've forgotten what to expect and for how long.

Have had a couple of extractions, have to have your mouth jabbed multiple times beforehand and *that* is a lot of the pain you experience afterwards.
Took a few days before I felt "normal" again.

I could prod my cheeks hard and felt nothing. Got mine done under general. Absolutely no way I would get a big tooth taken out with local. I'm far too squeamish.

I have never had any form of dental surgery, or broken a bone, but I have had some other excruciatingly painful and extremely personal medical procedures done whilst conscious, and in one case with no painkillers. I did have to have a spinal block once which was horribly unpleasant in itself, and quite disturbing

Its your body, and you should be in charge of what happens to it. If its as far as "horribly unpleasant" and "quite disturbing" its best to be done under anaesthia, even if not medically necessary in the strictest sense.

Well, on the occasion I had the spinal block, a general anaesthetic wasn't possible because I'd recently had covid and I couldn't simply leave it because of timing issues before the transplant. The other really bad one was emergency treatment to save my life on the night I got diagnosed and taken to hospital, and I'm not entirely sure I would have been safe to have a general

Is that covid policy a general one - or specific to severe cases?

I thought I'd picked up years ago that general anaesthetics for dental work had been restricted to being performed in hospitals, and phased out in dental practices.
Edit: Mods, I think nobody would object if you move these posts to its own thread.

Just pleased the pain is presently gone.

Well, on the occasion I had the spinal block, a general anaesthetic wasn't possible because I'd recently had covid and I couldn't simply leave it because of timing issues before the transplant. The other really bad one was emergency treatment to save my life on the night I got diagnosed and taken to hospital, and I'm not entirely sure I would have been safe to have a general Sounds like you've had some rotten luck - I really hope you are as well as can be, and have recovered. Is that covid policy a general one - or specific to severe cases? Well, the policy was different at two different hospitals in two different trusts, so I'm actually not entirely sure. The slightly strange thing is, the illness and the treatment had very different fortunes. With the illness and diagnosis, everything went as wrong as humanly possible. Kidney disease creeps up very slowly and has symptoms that can be explained away, so by the time I actually went to the GP, my kidney function was down to 2% - had I waited another two or three days, I would almost certainly be dead. I caught covid in hospital, had complications being catheterised, and my release was delayed because my anaemia improved slower than expected. The transplant, however, went as well as humanly possible. Living and closely related donor who was in excellent health, no complications, on my 11 months waiting for the operation, improved at a remarkable rate and despite having an operation scar nearly a foot long in my abdomen, I was walking completely upright within a week, and my recovery has generally been very quick. So swings and roundabouts I guess. Though the fact that I survived the initial illness after the state I was in means overall I've probably been very lucky

Holly Waddell, Northumberland Bywell councillor, has joined the Independent Group. She was expelled by Labour a year ago, since when she has heard nothing regarding her appeal. She says she has found it difficult to represent her constituents while not being a member of a group.
