Yesterday I resigned from the Conservative Group of Councillors on Aberdeenshire council. I have no faith in the Prime Minister (it turns out I am not alone) nor in the Leader or Deputy Leader of Aberdeenshire Council. This has been true for over a year and can be put off no longer. Substantive issues of difference have included the proposed new Civic HQ and last years budget, style of leadership has also been an issue. I have had scores of conversations with the Group Chairman, Deputy Leader and Association Chairman. They have been supportive while asking me remain in the Group. Sadly, I am unable to do so.
There are important votes on the Council early in 2019 where I will be unable to support the Administration position, on parking charges, waste management, the Local Development Plan and of course the Council budget. My thanks, apologies and best wishes to my Conservative friends.

You don't like independents!
Hopefully you'll be able to return to the fold.

So given your well documented dislike of Independents.......what *are* you going to be??

I await professional officer advice on that matter. I would be comfortable with No description, Unaligned or unaffiliated. But you are correct, the capitalised word Independent has connotations I dislike, although to be fair, the current aligned group of Independents on Aberdeenshire Council are a huge improvement on the group I first served alongside. I do not think it is yet time for a Whig.

Congratulations and commiserations at the same time on the step you have taken, which I know can be both liberating and confusing at the same time . Hope you come to understand you have done the right thing for this moment in time at least. Good Luck!

Iβm sorry you have had to take this decision boogieeck, but I completely understand. Hopefully one day soon youβll be able to proudly bear the title of a Conservative and Unionist councillor once again.

I represent Both Stonehaven and Durris/Drumoak. So SF & DUP.
Edit. I will be abstentionist half the time.

There is only one reasonable option. Start the official Vote UK Forum Political party and be its first leader.
