Is there a way to mute/ignore threads so I don't have to see them overtime I log in? Of the ten threads currently in the top of the list of recent threads, three are about various sports (one each for tennis, football and rugby) which is the same as the number which relate to Brexit and more than the number related to Covid (or indeed to elections, which is after all the primary purpose of this forum). I would like to be able to do the same as you (and I think this came up recently and there is something you can do IIRC, along the lines of marking a thread as permanently read), but the point that is made by my observation above, is that there are many far more tedious and irrelevant threads on here than this one

Sounds like many people don't have any will power and are forced by the board to read every thread on it.

running at 7 all Richard appears to have figured out how to vote I didn't figure anything out. The forum belated accepted my vote having initially refused it.

I think Boogs has genuinely been trying to avoid being overly rude in his normal way and should be encouraged in that attempt, but that it doesn't come naturally to him. That this threads exists at all is a symptom of that. There is a tendency to put himself at the centre of things when, truth be told, he is not that important( I know, I have had the same accusation levelled at me), and there is a certain latent aggression in the way the question is put, like " nobody has given me instances", etc, which he doesn't seem to be able to avoid. It is subtler than the an expletive ridden condemnation of anybody and everybody we might otherwise expect from some quarters.

When I came back, Mike's response was "Oh god, where's the block button", Boogs has called me "the reason why a joke worked", and Richard has called me all sorts. I don't need a barometer to see how the atmosphere is a toxic now as it was when I came back last year. This forum was (should still be) a happy place. A certain little grouplet of men ensure it's bleak and bitter and negative.

Is that your response to trying to improve the atmosphere on the Forum? Really? When I came back, Mike's response was "Oh god, where's the block button", Boogs has called me "the reason why a joke worked", and Richard has called me all sorts. I don't need a barometer to see how the atmosphere is a toxic now as it was when I came back last year. This forum was (should still be) a happy place. A certain little grouplet of men ensure it's bleak and bitter and negative. I think that's a bit self centered. I'll explain. Setting aside their specific remarks, can you not understand why they might not have any patience? You have joined and left this forum about five times now. Several times you have attached yourself onto an issue, such as lockdown, and have gone straight to DEFCON 1 when it gets heated, couldn't handle it when they retaliated and then deleted your account. If you're back permanently as a changed man, then I'm sure we'd all welcome that. However, you have claimed that before, several times, and then done the same thing. There is therefore going to be deep scepticism. Specifically on Richard, yesterday you got extremely angry at his comment, we all know which one, on the "Football" thread in Off Topic. Now there may have been provocations from him since you returned that I have not seen, but it seems to me that this is what started Richard's ire towards you presently. Therefore, it is, in my view, completely unreasonable for you to fault Richard for giving you as good as what you gave him. As for the atmosphere, twas ever thus in my experience. This forum attracts the politically active. Conservatives, Labour, current and former Lib Dems like yourself and others. Therefore, whatever's currently politically divisive, be it lockdowns, Brexit, immigration, the culture war, Trump, is also divisive on this forum. Indeed, the day I first posted on this forum, I'd been a silent member for nearly a year, in 2017 there was a heated argument going on between beastofbedfordshire and someone else, I can't remember who exactly, about whether Theresa May was essentially a socialist. I therefore think that's an unfair charge levelled against the forum. This isn't to get at you Dok, I want you to be able to eventually feel comfortable on the forum, I do, but I hope that you can now at least understand the wider context to your post.

You really are incredibly naive David. The provocation has been almost constant since he rejoined.

In other words if you poke the hornets nest, you may get stung. Though that risk can sometimes be part of the fun. You just have to accept that people will give as good as they get.

There has been some proding yes. People are testing based on previous form. Rightly or wrongly you can make a rod for your own back sometimes.
Dok needs to ignore all provocation, it will then reduce, cease. If he wants to give it out at all, even if it is in reaction to others, he has to accept it back and not quit.
Sticks and stones will........

You really are incredibly naive David. The provocation has been almost constant since he rejoined. That's because of the content of what he posts. He deliberately posts that sort of provocative material, so should expect provocation in return.
