Agents have been told June 14 will be polling day Has the by-election formally been set for 14 June? This would give prospective candidates only a week from now to get their nomination papers in if this was true! It is true. We have been told the Acting Returning Officer will close nominations next Thursday or Friday

So who is the actual frontrunner who has been left out? So much ramping going on its hard to tell Well, purely on the Labour List article, Phyll Opoku-Gyimah. She was also mentioned as “the likely favourite” in a BBC News Channel report covering Heidi Alexander’s resignation yesterday morning.

Sounds like it will be an all-woman shortlist, then an all-woman all-BAMEshortlist, then an all woman allBAME, all lesbian shortlist?

It's interesting how by-elections are almost always held either as quickly as possible, or the opposite of as quickly as possible. As slowly as impossible?

Labour does not always profitt from engaging in these kind of gestures in this area, but I guess things have changed a bit in thirty years

That should be vertically challenged list Then at less than 4’ tall I should clearly be the front-runner (and would also break another glass ceiling by becoming the first Labour MP called Tim/Timothy/or if you have a death wish, Timmy!

This therefore means that Labour have had more Tristrams than Tims.

Some quite incredible ramping in this thread... Tory gain on the back of our stupendous London performance Well, it was a Tory seat 1983 - 1992! Rather incredible that many expect them to fail to hang on to second place here.

Joe Dromey, Lewisham Councillor, and son of Harriet Harman and Jack Dromey is the latest to announce. Informal message that only female BAME candidates should be shortlisted doesn’t seem to be gathering much traction.
