Today was a disaster. Two very fine posters gone. Bloody snowflakes everywhere. Why the feck do people have to delete their account just because someone / something annoys them.

You are unsuitable for being an administrator. I like your posts as a member but it’s time to Resign. A good poster with a unique knowledge base (admittedly with a bit of a short fuse) is pushed away by a moron and that’s the best you can manage. Go. Go now. No. Odo was a high-quality poster, but she has a hair-trigger capacity for taking offence. Scuffles involving her escalate quickly, and I can't see how any moderator could stop things from getting out of hand other than by the sheer good fortune of being in the right place at the right time. Perhaps you have some prior beef with @iainbhxadmin. That's fair enough, but this particular episode doesn't discredit him. I agree. I have some reservations about Iain's moderating style which I have put on record in the appropriate place (and this isn't the appropriate place to rehearse them) but the issue here is with odo/vintris seeking to control threads and micro managing what people say on those threads which she believed she exercised some kind of ownership over. It's a shame because she obviously has immense knowledge and made interesting contributions, but it isn't much fun if she won't let anyone else join in. Just as I would with that kind of person in RL, I pretty much gave up on engaging with her as I don't care to have my head bitten off. We all have our moments of robustness and inflamed passion, but that kind of consistent brittleness isn't very well suited to a discussion forum

I agree with that sentiment. I think it was two big overreactions that they, and the forum as a whole, will regret. Hopefully they’ll come back soon.

I was going to tell people to calm it down, but I can see the main cause of the trouble has self-deleted. You are unsuitable for being an administrator. I like your posts as a member but it’s time to Resign. A good poster with a unique knowledge base (admittedly with a bit of a short fuse) is pushed away by a moron and that’s the best you can manage. Go. Go now. Remember, I can see the posts before they were edited, so I know who started it. You do not have that ability.

And we have the same circus as with Putin and Orban: An election supervised this time by 600.000 (!) observers from opposition and foreign countries, but at least german&austrian media decry "irregularities", if not "fraud"...

That's Tunceli - heavily Alevis. I was going to say I#m none the wiser but googled that. Are they the ones that eat bacon? Yes, like the Syrian Alewites they are exShiites with a finally unislamic mysticism. Assad could abuse them in future for some revanche.

I can recall one occasion where I got my head bitten off, even though I was (broadly) agreeing with her.

I recall her giving the game away when she instructed another poster (can't remember who, think it might have been Georg Ebner) to "get the hell out of my thread".

I think this might be the moment when we all need to express our support for Iain as administrator and the other moderators who do a tremendous job in difficult circumstances and who at moments like these could lose control of the whole forum without our support. This has been a bad night for the forum and it would not be right to ignore that, but there is more at stake here than one or two rather esoteric threads, or a few brittle if brilliant personalities. Time to express solidarity with the fundamental strengths of this forum!

Bizarre this all happened on a Turkish Election thread when the result was never in doubt and there should be 0 contraversy, unlike some of the other threads.
I for one fully back the moderators and as YellowPeril said they do a great, unrewarding job.

And there was I thinking Odo's departure months ago was due to her pursuing my admonition to find an Irish product in a Danish supermarket! Instead she had to go under deep cover rather than admit that no-one outside the UK actually bought anything from Ireland... Now I'm presuming that Ghyll Tarvoke has done the same with regards to my request to find Irish products in Bulgarian supermarkets.

Is there a "not" missing in the penultimate paragraph of your piece which rather changes the meaning?
