Unlike most of Europe, the older voters are sensibly rejecting nutcase nationalism - As pointed out by SPQR the SD-numbers say the opposite. - And contrary to Great Britain, the oldies on the continent aren't very open towards xenophobic parties (strongly, because they are to a large extent a preInterNet-generation and we restEuropeans don't have such a broad conservative press or television.)

Unlike most of Europe, the older voters are sensibly rejecting nutcase nationalism, and my generation have completely lost the plot. Or to look at it from a different perspective, your generation are increasingly unhappy with the Social Democrats' lunatic immigration policy. Complete with accepting all comers regardless of need or merit, setting them up in concrete blocks on the edge of cities, and not actually thinking about whether Swedish society can actually employ them and look after them let alone integrate them.

What time are the exit polls released tomorrow? Sometime after the polls close at 8pm (7pm UK time). Everything apparently gets counted up very quickly here. Some of my colleagues said that in recent years the result was known before midnight, with only a few extra overseas votes left to add after that.

Today is the big day! Heading out to my polling station in a few minutes. Not yet eligible for the national vote, but I get to vote for the Lanstinget and kommun. This is my first time voting here and the first time voting in any election in person, as I've always voted by proxy or post in the UK. I could have voted here in 2014, but I missed it as I was working in the depths of the Peruvian Amazon for half a year.

Oh and I should add that I've not decided which party will get my vote yet! I've got it down to two I guess we will see which one my hand chooses.

DON'T LEAVE IT TO THE HAND! NEVER LEAVE IT TO THE HAND! Haha, don't worry, I didn't close my eyes and pick up the first card I laid my hand on. In the end I went for Centerpariet instead of Liberalerna. My rural roots overcame my metropolitan life.

do we think another election is 6 months down the road? Elites hoping for a different result? Look to Italy for how that might work out..

do we think another election is 6 months down the road? I don't know about that, but I think we are going to see a reshuffling of the old coalitions. I can see M and KD (assuming they make it over the threshold) being tempted to go into a pact with SD. I would be very surprised if both L and C followed them into it though. S and MP might end up going into a more formal coalition with V, possibly supported by C, or more improbably L. Whatever happens, there will be some interesting manoeuvring on the cards.

If the SDs come first I think a grand coalition is likely. If they come second, it's less likely, and if they come third it won't happen.

You can watch the results come in here: linkFrom what I can gather from the chatter so far is that turnout is up in areas which favour the Swedish democrats.

This comment on PB is rather interesting. Hopefully the poster won't mind me putting it here: "MaxPB:
Something of a wildcard for the Sweden results tonight. My cousin who lives there explained to me how the voting system works and its intended purpose of shaming people into only voting for "acceptable" parties. The way voting happens there is that people take voting sheets from a common tray and them post them into a ballot box, each party running has it's own sheet in a separate container which one must pick the ballot paper up from. He said the system has been designed to put pressure onto people thinking of voting against the consensus and expects that SD will underperform the online polling because of it.
He was very surprised that it wasn't just an X in a box which is truly secret."www2.politicalbetting.com/index.php/archives/2018/09/09/the-power-and-politics-of-pardon/

To suggest that it's a new thing that has been adopted to stop undesirable parties is nonsense. Each ballot has the list of people hoping to be elected into the party in order. Most people just put a unmarked ballot into the envelope, but you are able to put a mark next to a certain name which will be taken into account. If lots of people choose a particular person then they get bumped up the list. You're also welcome to write in any name on a blank ballot too. Historically Donald Duck used to get a fair number of votes.

I don't think it is over-stating it to suggest that this election is pivotal to the future of Sweden like never before

After such an impressive series of lying/ignoring/covering up the impacts of MassImmigration for years, the television-debats centred around them aso. FPÖ would be at 35-40%! But this is after all the semiPenInsula of the Phaiaks, for centuries quite far away from continental conflicts & controversies, so 15% less is apparently more likely. Perhaps rather 25% than 20%?
