FWIW, the polls released on Israeli TV tonight show Netanyahu short of a majority without Bennett. However, the motley crew opposition composed of religious nationalists, Bennett, secular leftists, Meretz, and non Zionist Arabs, the List, make it unlikely an alternative is feasible either.

I suppose a lot will depend on the outcome of Bibi's corruption case.

And Sa'ar being another Gantz (i.e. coalitioning with Bibi) is not really likely, is it? So the situation will be - unless the numbers will be very different next spring - even worse than today!

Ze’ev Elkin, one of Netanyahu's closest confidants, is defecting to Sa'ar's new party.

The Yamina surge has clearly started to taper off though they are of course still well above their previous result. Meanwhile, Blue and White’s polling has really gone down the toilet. The anti-Netanyahu vote continues to drift further right with centre-right New Hope picking up the mantle and surging to around 20 seats. It says a lot about the state of Israel that the voters who backed a party led by trade unionists and social liberals (and years before Labour and associates) seem to have had absolutely no interest in backing the only remaining mainstream left party Meretz, who are polling at only the combined Meretz + Labour vote of the last election. It’s been a long term trend, but the complete and utter collapse into irrelevance of anything resembling the left is astounding.

Ze’ev Elkin, one of Netanyahu's closest confidants, is defecting to Sa'ar's new party. Further to this, in a stunning rebuke, Elkin has accused Netanyahu of prioritising his own needs above Israel's, has accused him of ruining the Likud, he said much of the Likud secretly agreed with him and has announced that he no longer has any faith in Netanyahu. I cannot stress highly enough, this is a big blow. These two were tight and for Elkin to not only go, to not only go condemning Netanyahu, but to go while condemning Netanyahu and to join with Gideon Sa'ar, one of Netanyahu's most hated rivals, and to work with Sa'ar to remove Netanyahu, it's surely the bitterist of pills.

Could see a record number of right wing seats here, not on any ideological grounds but on an anyone but Netanyahu vote. Given the influence of left wing politicians in the creation of Israel it is a shame that the secular, liberal communitarian Israel is being subsumed.

Interesting, New Hope is trying to attract left-leaning MKs to be a more "catch-all" party. May have left-of-centre MKs in an obvious centre-right party. Not the first time in Israel. A weird political system.

I’m curious, is Netanyahu getting any credit / political capital from these recognitions & normalisation of relations with Arab countries, amongst the Israeli electorate?

Unless the Israeli electorate are particularly dumb. It was a matter of being in the right time at the right time. In any even Benji could soon find himself in jail?

Ron Huldai, Mayor of Tel Aviv, has founded a new left-of-centre party called "The Israelis". Early polls have it perhaps gaining 8 or 9 seats, showing there is still centre-left electorate. For me, Labour, Meretz and the Greens need to set up an electoral deal with Huldai as soon as possible. It needs to try to attract the former Labour MKs who are looking to abandon Blue and White.

I am an election junkie but at this stage if I was in Israel I would be in rehab! Will this one even change anything? Possibly though BiBi is no longer the bridge to the white house but it could be interesting to watch. The Labour party is in a really terrible place, the party which was so powerful could be finished!

New poll suggests Blue and White could be wiped out. They certainly deserve to be.

Merav Michaeli is running for the leadership of the Labor Party. Just what they need, somebody who argued for the cancellation of marriage.
